40 hour per week

    Every employment contract I've ever had was a 39 hour per week contract.
    I always thought it strange as 39 hours is an odd number but I did hear somewhere that employers offer 39 hour contracts because anyone working 40hours or more per week is entitled to certain benefits or is entitled to something a 39hour'er (or less) is not.

    I'm only inquisitive about this now as I have a 40hour per week contract and I'd like to know if that means anything?
    Anyone know anything about this?

    Anyone know why employers mostly offer 39hour contracts? Is there a reason why most are no wounded to 40? Perhaps someone can give an opinion or better, a fact?

    Have had everything from a 35 to a 40 hour contract ( so 41 - 45 hours including an hours break for lunch over a five day week)

    Is just up to each employer to be honest

    Until you hit 48h a week I can't think of anything you'd get as extra.

    Why would you get anything extra over 48 hours? 48 hours is the maximum you are allowed to work per week on average (unless you are in an exempt profession)

    39 hours is probably what was negotiated - probably during better times. It's like price tags - 9.99 instead of a tenner.

    48h average is the maximum yes; and that why you'd consider getting something extra as in additional days off to even out the working weeks etc.

    Some companies let their employees go home an hour early on a Friday, or give them an extra hour off a week to do 'banking' or whatever.
