Hi there, if you are having performance issues (or if you arent!), do lets us know what they are, and what device you are using! This is just a general feedback thread for performance... does it run smooth? does it jerk at certain points? or all the time? etc etc.

ARM 7 devices.... If you device isnt on this list, we're not saying it wont play but it might be of questionable performance. Very questionable :)

Testing on a galaxy s3 running JB and the game performance is perfect(super smooth) but the boot time is poor enough 25-30 seconds on the gone gaming splash screen, might be something to look into but overall great game

A little "Loading" animation or something would help here so users know it is loading and not stuck on the splash/logo screen

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

We havent optimised the loading screen at all... in final build we hope to have that waaaay down and background load a lot of things... right now it precaches everything up front.

Glad to hear it runs smooth though....

It crashes my phone at the loading screen - done it twice now. I've a Samsung Galaxy S (GT-i9000) running Darky's Rom 10.2

This could be the time to upgrade to CM9. If I've time this week I'll do that and see how it works.

ooo CM10 is out on stable - maybe that.

Crashes my Xperia Play after about ten seconds of gameplay. Could just be the phone though as it's on it's last legs

    Galaxy S3

    Couple of points:
    Looks and plays great
    Sound is great

Triple jump from ramp has put me under the track on landing
Powerups seem hard to activate, with car moving whe. I try to activate them. Would love to be able to activate 2 together too.
Would love to be able to swipe into a jump. Seem to have to release the screen before I can activate the jump.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,814 ✭✭✭TPD

Runs smoothly on my Pantech Element, initial loading takes quite a while as mentioned though.

I've noticed the number '3' stays floating from the starting countdown when I've started a new game from within an existing game's pause menu. Not really a performance issue though.

Just played for 45 minutes straight. Phone (HTC One X) got very hot, so I gave it a break.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,656 ✭✭✭norrie rugger

I noticed my phone getting very hot also. It's an absolute monster on the battery

*Disclaimer* May be because I played it for an hour straight

Have played it for 3 hours, battery is now charging but no extra heat from it on the S3 so far :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 355 ✭✭vestanpance

Installed on Archos 101 G9 and Galaxy S3.

Not great on the archos, has crashed 4 times, have managed to get 10-15 seconds of gameplay before it packs it in.

Runs very smooth on the S3, like others phone gets very hot.

On the game, looks great and is very addictive, it's probably the way I'm playing it but sometimes when I move left/right it jumps instead which leads to death which makes me want to throw phone against the wall, haven't yet though.

Will try on my iPod tomorrow.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

We've heard people report of missed jumps and misinterpreted swipes. I think we'll have to consider offering an alternative control system for jumping. hmmm...

The archos is quite an old tablet I think?? (or is that a new version of it?). As for phone heat, my HTC get warm playing any visually quick game but no more so for this than any other such game. I'm surprised at the S3, thats one of the phones we have found to NOT get hot when playing... hmmm.

I dunno if it will run on iPod but I guess this is Beta Test for a reason :)

    Thanks for the feedback...

  • Registered Users Posts: 355 ✭✭vestanpance

The archos I think was released Sept 2011 although it has struggled with some games in the past, it's the version with 512mb ram and 1ghz dual core arm cortex a9 if that helps.

On the S3, it's hot but not too hot, not enough to make me stop. I'll let you know how it goes with the ipod , it's a 3rd Gen one.

It works well on both my S2 with ICS and Samsung 8.9 tab with Honeycomb. On the S2 I have had some missed jumps, however not on the tab at all.

Perhaps because of the screen size, but I feel more confident making my swipes and jumps playing on the tab v's the phone (looks great on the larger screen) and the music sounds great.

Will give it a few more plays before I give more feedback on performance.

Asus transformer, looks great, but has a little input lag.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,814 ✭✭✭TPD

I've just installed it on the Desire - it runs like ass. Everything looks as it should but it seems to be getting about 6 frames per second, and the input lag is dire.

That's a Desire with CM7 installed, I'd imagine it would be worse on a stock Sense rom. One for the unsupported list I think.

On the control thing - I've noticed a couple of times on the tablet that upward swipes were interpreted as sideways movement. Maybe a jump button at the bottom? Everything could be controlled with two thumbs without moving the hands then.

That has happens to me a lot on the phone, but not on the tab. IT is usually when I am in the center position and I go to jump and it move me left or right.

It could be good to have a jump button where the pause button is currently and move the pause button to the top of the screen?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,602 ✭✭✭Funkfield

Haven't had a chance to play yet. The menus look great.

One thing I did notice so far is that the sound options are ignored. Turned off sound and music but the menu sound effects are still played.

    EDIT: HTC One S

Further EDIT: Sound was still played while playing the game. Sound turned off after 8-10 goes of the game and returning to Main Menu.
    Definite misinterpretation of directions.

Actually, I had this happen a good bit last night but I found that while I was swiping up my finger would go in an arched direction to either the left or right causing me to go sideways instead of jump.

We're actively looking at the jumping issue now. Fix on the way but it will be next week as its a major recode of the controls we're mooting. (same controls, just coded in a much different way).

Will flag the sound issue Funk, thanks for that!

Tried it on 3 different android devices.

    Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray:
    - crashes at the Gone Gaming loading screen

    Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0:
    - input lag when jumping
    - frame rate generally not great which is surprising because similar games like Temple Run have no performance issues on this device
    - changing volume causes massive lag/framerate drop both during game play and in menu screen

    Samsung Galaxy S2:
    - seems fine but this is my brother's phone so didn't really spend too long play testing
    - one complaint i have is that it took a while to figure out the controls as I had no access to this forum at the time and there's no help files but I assume there will be play instructions in the final version

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,789 ✭✭✭grizzly

Playing on a iPhone 5. The Gone Gaming splash screen takes about 18 seconds to load. After that it's smooth sailing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,602 ✭✭✭Funkfield

Have played it a good bit on the HTC ONE S now.

    Sound is on permanently.
Controls are skittish and not always correct.

Game flies though. Looks great and runs really well.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

The second UT release will hopefully address the controls issue. We had hoped we could have a lovely swipey/tappie interface but we're finding that all the different screens have different interpretations of what a swipe/tap is and while its almost there, its really not good enough for a split second reaction game.

Glad to hear it runs well on the S though...

Runs perfect on the HTC One x on a CM10 rom.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

tested on Zenithink C91 running Android 4.

Looks and sounds great but input lag of 1-2 seconds makes it impossible to play once your car starts to get some good speed.

Pity. Curse my cheap chinese knockoff tablet

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

Ok, dont toss it out yet, we are doing some optimisations for lower spec machines (based primarily on feedback we've gotten from this test as it happens!) and we might yet get it working reasonably on those machines. This will be a week or two but we'll keep everyone informed.

Playing on rooted Xperia play. Well trying haha.
Game stays on splash screen for about a minute and the kicks me back to my launcher.

For some reason the Xperia has a major problem and we have a test unit to try it out on now but it will take time to work out why. It being rooted probably isnt helping though... :/ The splash screen currently takes about18-60 seconds depending on the phone. Thats known and will be dealt with in a future beta test hopefully. This is obviously quite an early build :)
Thanks for the feedback, we'll keep at the Xperia as it should be able to play it no problem.
