    answer,
they wave it from the driving seat while driving down the motorway, while posing for the driver of another car to take the picture of them waiving said Iphone.

    1. It looks absolutely ridiculous. It makes a car look cheap and tacky. This applies to rear window tinting too but at least that's not illegal.

Completely disagree. My car is a dark coloured estate and looks pretty good with the rear tinted. And a lot of estates now have the rear tinted as a factory fitted option/standard depending on the model.

    +1 for Pro parts...
Got my 520D done recently to match the bmw factory specs and it's very well done. I actually can't even tell there's a sheet of film on the glass; it's that well done.
got my rears done medium tint and front ones done with the NCT legal tint.

they made me take the tint off the 2 front windows a year or so ago. The nct test centers finally got in the light meters to test the tint. But they refused to tell me the readings.

I have to admit that i find night driving much worse without the tint. before, i could see details of cars etc in my mirrors. but without the tint i just constantly get blinded by cars, trucks etc behind me.

However, i do like been able to see drivers faces when they are at junctions etc. It's easier to tell what someone is going to do if you can see their face.

You are allowed to have tinted front windows, but they can only block up to a specific percentage of the light passing through. and window tints do come in relevent shades. But you also have to allow for the fact that a lot of car companies already have a slight tint, a few percent, but enough to put you over the limit.
heres the relevent details from the RSA:

"If the NCT vehicle inspector deems that the windscreen or front side windows are excessively tinted the level of light transmission of the window will be tested. The glass in the windscreen and front side windows will be required to have a light transmission level of not less than 65% in order to pass the NCT test. Tinting of these windows must not be greater than 35%.Unfortunately the National Car Testing Regulations do not allow for any exemptions in this regard."

I'd understand the safety issue. This tint I'm on about is extremely light from the inside. Much lighter than wearing sunglasses.

I'll upload a pic to show

handy thing about sunglasses though, is you can take them off when driving at night

Are sunglasses banned while driving at night?

I don't know TBH. But everyone would take them off at night....

Maybe could be done for driving without due care and attention?

falls under driving without due care I'd imagine

Hopefully as i've seen a few tools wearing them at night, part of the 'look at me, i'm cool look'!

Do you think that dark tints are less dangerious at night?

I've had tints(from memory it was 68% light transmission) on the front side windows before, didn't affect my driving daytime or night.

Well I have never driven with tints at night but I imagine that they are just as bad as sunglasses.

That depends on the level of the tinting, not all tints are the same! :)

My dad has all the windows on his Rav 4 tinted for like 7 years now. He hasn't had to remove it for NCT or been pulled over by the gards

I've driven it a couple of times and there's no problem seeing through it, even at night tbh

OK fair enough, Not all sunglasses are the same either (not saying it's ok to wair them at night)

If your tints are NCT acceptable then they are probably safe for night use.( would make my own judgment on it though...)

I took them off for the NCT mainly from reading here that the light level would not pass the test. Think we need NCT testing for sunglasses also ;)

Well I can see where you are coming from but I would be worried about things like if there is some moron on a bike at night wairing all black with no reflectors or lights, with tints you don't have a hope of seeing them. That's where I'm coming from.

A cyclist? A cyclist with no front lights coming at you from the side, you would not see him tinted windows or not.

Coming up inside you in slow moving traffic.
Without tints you have a better chance of seeing them I would think.

Looking at the side mirror made no difference(in mine), of course it might not be in cars with darker tints which is what the NCT should be about rather than generalising that all tints are bad.

    could be Polaroids?
I've a set of Polaroid prescription sunglasses and they're rated for night time driving. No glare whatsoever from oncoming car lights which I find fantastic.
I'd normally wear my normal glasses though for country driving and the polaroids for suburb driving.

Going to get them done today. Pro parts seems like they do great work. Got a quote for 70 for front 2. Fanatix quoted me 50. Has anyone ever dealt with them?

And just about night driving with tints. If anything the difference in visibility between the windscreen without tint and the side window with tint is negligibe at night time.

When to fanatix in the end cos it suited. Top notch work. Would definitely recommend!
