    Hi
I searched the forum but there were no recent relevant threads.

Can anyone reccomend a good window tinting company in North Dublin (preferably blanch) or alternatively Bluebell/Naas Road areas?

Id like to see a website so I can look at previous examples before booking anywhere.

    2nd recommendation for shades

I got the rear windows done last year (20% VLT) and they did a great job

I would and have used any of these 3 in the past and will use any of them in the future depending on which one has availability on my day off that i was to need the work done.
    1. Vision tint (south side though)
    2. Shades
    3. Pro-Parts

Used Shades in the past and very pleased with their work. Had the wife's old Ibiza done by them after getting a special offer price at a car show. Went on to use them for quite a few things through work after that.

Using www.autoflair.com now, mainly due to their location - not too far from Bluebell/Naas Road. Top quality work - did an A5 S-Line for me last week that looked rather good afterwards :-)

Bearcat, you can go as dark as you like for rear windows.

Any tint at all on the fronts should fail the NCT/DOE though it seems to vary as to whether they do or not.

Didn't know that. See plenty of cars with it done. Why do places advertise that they do it if it's illegal?

+1 for shades. Dealt with them to get the front tints removed for the NCT.. haven't had a chance to get back to them yet.

Dunno about that. Mine was/will be again tinted for the past 4 years and no hassle

People advertise for car clocking too.....

The legal tint for the front isn't worth your while. Each NCT will require the front tints having to be removed.

There are a number of reasons you shouldn't get it done:

    1. It looks absolutely ridiculous. It makes a car look cheap and tacky. This applies to rear window tinting too but at least that's not illegal.
    2. The front windows have to allow a certain amount of light through. Generally windows are tinted slightly out of the factory, and any further aftermarket tinting will only result in too little light getting through. As such it's illegal, and the Gardaí can pull you on it.

The reason I thought I'd do it is because the car is silver. A colour I never liked. However the car was a great buy so to refuse it because of colour would have been foolish.

The guy that had it before me had the windows tinted. It is a light tint, barely noticeable from inside but it gives the car a nice balance of light and dark on the outside. Also, it's great for security when Parking on Dublin streets.

If it never had the tint I wouldn't have gotten it done but I've gotten used to it and miss it now in the front. Never had any bother with guards with it. Those German number plates you see people with are just as illegal. Think the guards concentrate on more important problems like people not having tax an insurance or speeding. Id say the only time you'd get done for tints etc is if you got pulled for something more serious in the first place

It's a different issue than the plates, they are not really a safety problem. The issue with the tints is that in low-light conditions your view is not as clear as it should be. Hence why it only applies to the front windows.

If you are concerned about security you are better to put anything you don't want people to see in the boot.

I'd understand the safety issue. This tint I'm on about is extremely light from the inside. Much lighter than wearing sunglasses.

I'll upload a pic to show

OT I know, but just in case anyone reading this bit thinks it is true. German-style plates are not illegal, unless they include the extra stickers, or do not conform to the plate specifications. There is no font specified in the regulations.

Is it 3 door or something? Why the darkest? You could get the NCT certified ones all round!

I'd go with the lightest. It'd be plenty and you won't have to go taking it off for nct!

I've my front windows tinted since the car the new (7 years ago) never had an issue with the doe, but got pulled last week and was told there are illegal and that I should take them off but wasn't written up or anything just more a suggestion, although I was pulled for not having a visible front reg that tome rather than windows (my fault got bent up under the jeep and never fixed).

But if it does fail the doe I would just get new one put back on after for both security and the my jeep would look wierd without them (its black).

Completely disagree. My car is a dark coloured estate and looks pretty good with the rear tinted. And a lot of estates now have the rear tinted as a factory fitted option/standard depending on the model.

    +1 for Pro parts...
Got my 520D done recently to match the bmw factory specs and it's very well done. I actually can't even tell there's a sheet of film on the glass; it's that well done.
got my rears done medium tint and front ones done with the NCT legal tint.

they made me take the tint off the 2 front windows a year or so ago. The nct test centers finally got in the light meters to test the tint. But they refused to tell me the readings.

I have to admit that i find night driving much worse without the tint. before, i could see details of cars etc in my mirrors. but without the tint i just constantly get blinded by cars, trucks etc behind me.

However, i do like been able to see drivers faces when they are at junctions etc. It's easier to tell what someone is going to do if you can see their face.

You are allowed to have tinted front windows, but they can only block up to a specific percentage of the light passing through. and window tints do come in relevent shades. But you also have to allow for the fact that a lot of car companies already have a slight tint, a few percent, but enough to put you over the limit.
heres the relevent details from the RSA:

"If the NCT vehicle inspector deems that the windscreen or front side windows are excessively tinted the level of light transmission of the window will be tested. The glass in the windscreen and front side windows will be required to have a light transmission level of not less than 65% in order to pass the NCT test. Tinting of these windows must not be greater than 35%.Unfortunately the National Car Testing Regulations do not allow for any exemptions in this regard."

Maybe could be done for driving without due care and attention?

I've had tints(from memory it was 68% light transmission) on the front side windows before, didn't affect my driving daytime or night.

That depends on the level of the tinting, not all tints are the same! :)

My dad has all the windows on his Rav 4 tinted for like 7 years now. He hasn't had to remove it for NCT or been pulled over by the gards

I've driven it a couple of times and there's no problem seeing through it, even at night tbh
