Since my last post was locked by the powers that be maybe I should try something a little light hearted.

A thread on Irish Nationalism is probably not a good ice breaker for a noob like myself.

On a different note....Is anyone going away for Christmas? I've never liked the idea of it...especially if there is kids involved, I imagine it would make the whole Santa thing a little difficult. I know someone who goes to Spain for Christmas? Spain? I think that defeats the purpose a little bit.

    Hate the idea too,

Christmas is all about being together with your family during sh1tty irish weather, drinking hot chocolate by an open fire...and all that ;)

Edit: Curses on you pmcmahon, foiled again!

Always a tough call. I'm married here, but I have the parents and other relatives in Germany.

But usually I'm working over Christmas, so I have New Year's Day off to go to Germany. Some sort of compromise, I suppose.

I think the 6th of January is the more important day in Spain. My father spent a few Christmas's over there and said there wasn't much build up or fanfare to the 25th where he was.

Personally I wouldn't mind spending it abroad, Somewhere nice and cold preferably.

Christmas at home was always split between two houses for me. It depends on the family situation.

This time I'm off to New York for a month. I am yet to hear arguments against this.

Can't argue with that. I've never been and its the one place I'd love to go. Xmas in New York, I imagine, is amazing.

The only thing I would worry about is the expense. A month in the Big Apple at Xmas time? But then again Carpe Diem and all that jazz i suppose.

Staying with my girlfriend. Dec 17 to Jan 17. Cannot wait.

    Direct return flights = $360
    Monthly subway ticket = $110
Food and drink and everything else = $????

    Profit.

Is this "foreign" a new country?

I always wondered what it would be like to be away for xmas.

I've two children though so I think when they get older we might head off somewhere, to this foreign place perhaps...

If I could, I'd go away to somewhere that doesn't celebrate Christmas.

I'd settle for hibernating from now till middle of January.

Eh, you do know that people in Spain celebrate Christmas too, right? I mean the people that already live there so they probably wouldn't agree that it 'defeats the purpose'.

Going away ourselves. Just realised there'll be no tree where we're staying.
Like a sad dick,I've been looking for one I can pack in my suitcase for the last hour.:o

The question was am I going away for Christmas. My answer was: no, I am home for Christmas.

What's your point? Am I only allowed to reply if the answer is yes?

I've had countless Christmases at home with family and friends and they've been cool.

I've had a handful in tropical climates, on beaches, lying in a hammocks supping on mojitos.

Supplied with a choice I'd be getting tan, drunk and generally not giving a flying fuck about anything.

My lazy attempt at humour :)

You answered with where you were going before and after Christmas, I was joking with what was the question.

Went away for Christmas one year to Austria. It was nice enough, we went skiing on Christmas Day but I wouldn't do it again.

It felt like I didn't have a Christmas that year.
