I used compub in Dundrum myself and dropped it off on the Friday. I was away all the next week for work, hence could afford not to have the machine, but it only took them a couple of working days to get the machine fixed. They said they had to order the parts, but I imagine if you co-ordinate with them beforehand they should be able to preorder and cut down on the delivery time. I'd suggest giving the suuplier a ring and sounding them out first.
    Excellent.

They just emailed me asking for my details to get a refund, will probably get it next week.

So I get mine back today, happy with quick turnaround from Galmac. Now I have a slight problem though. I've cloned my drive so I can always transfer apps and files that way, but I was hoping to do a clean reinstall of everything. However having reinstalled mountain lion and having then gone to the app store to reinstall my apps it's showing all the apps as already installed... which of course they are not. Any advice?

We were the same. Hats off to CompuB for an excellent service. A special mention to Adam (and his boss) the engineer who looked after us. A gent.

In the end I just restored from the clone. Easy enough all working fine.

Dropping mine into Blanchardstown Compub tomorrow, have already arranged with them to install an SSD in place of the optical drive. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

We had it done by CompuB. Excellent service. Had the SSD installed as well.

Just for anyone else considering where to go for the HD replacement, I couldn't recommend Marcin in Compub Blanchardstown enough. I dropped the iMac in Wednesday afternoon and before I left he made sure to go through everything in detail so I was in no doubt of any stage of the procedure.

He rang me yesterday evening (Friday) to say the machine was ready to collect after only receiving the parts on Friday morning. He replaced the optical drive with the SSD kit I supplied and tested everything to make sure it was working optimally. Made sure I could try the iMac before re-packing it and sending it on my way. I won't be back in the office until tomorrow evening but can't wait to try it out!

An absolute gentleman to deal with and turned what should have been a painful experience into a positive one.

You won't be disappointed Paddy. 30 seconds to a working desktop (including security login).:)

Can you recommend an SSD kit for the iMac?

Was there an extra cost for CompuB to put this in?

Depends what year your iMac is, mine was a late 2009 27" i7 model and I bought a 512GB M4 SSD from Crucial.eu and the HD Caddy from here on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230829491256?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I was charged €69 for the install, and it has been worth every single cent.

€200 for the Crucial 256GB drive - €80 for the labour and cables. Life's too short to attempt it yourself.:D

Believe it or not I have a SSD installed in lieu of the optical drive already. I am considering replacing the 3.5" HDD.

So I'm getting my harddrive replaced tomorrow, what's the best method for backing up the complete drive - time capsule or some other software? Thanks:)

I got sorted with CompuB also, they were able to clone the drive so the unit came back more or less how I'd left it.

I still backed up important stuff manually to an external HD.

We got ours done a few weeks ago and had the SSD fitted. It's crawling some days now. We've tried everything but no joy. It can be fine one day and nuts the next. Spinning beach balls etc. Let us know how yours goes!

Well I didn't go for an SSD, bit too rich for me personally.

Unit has been fine since I got it back (before Chrimbo).
