Keepers wasting time by taking kickouts from the opposite side of the posts that they ball went out, so blatant may as well crawl on their hands and knees to waste more time.

I used to hate the protection given to keepers on crosses, but I think this has improved greatly especially in the EPL.

Lack of blood substitutes, now I;ve never seen a case where a team conced when down to 10 men as someone gets stitched up but if it were to happen it would be very unfair.

Football coverage, BBC, ITV, SKY are all guilty of slowing down, zooming, freeze framing millimetre touches of the ball from multiple angles to show how the ref got it wrong yet when it's real time they sit on the fence.

Deja Vu I may have posted in here already!

Blame the law makers for that one, it used to be you could only take the goal kick from which ever side the ball went out of play on

I'm glad someone has said this. I'm sick of people complaining about wearing gloves and short sleeves, ever think there might actually be a reason?
    Of course theres a reason.

Muppets saw overseas professionals wearing them in the "freezing" British winter and decided to copy them.

Those two points completely conflict with each other. It is the referee's decision if something is awarded, regardless of whether a player goes down or not. If you have to go down to give a referee a decision to make then the game is in a bad place.

I see player's have a hand on their shoulder in the box, which happens with almost every tussle in midfield, and a player falls down, and then this gets said. You don't have a right to go down IMO if the tackle isn't enough to do it. Unfortunately that isn't the game these days, and it's all the worse for it.

A referee can still make a decision on a 'foul' whether you fall to the ground or not.

The thing is they don't do that though, especially in the box.

Quite often you see a defender foul a striker as he's about to go around him and the the striker stumbles but stays on his feet. Another defender then comes in on the recovery and tackles the striker and clears.

Striker is punished for staying on his feet and loses out. Refs aren't brave enough to award a peno in these circumstances as you'll get some old school pundit like Souness saying it's never a peno lambasting the ref.

I'm a defender by the way.

I know it sounds a bit macho buy players with colourful boots can piss off. Instantly makes me think they're a tosser, especially pink ones - not because I think it's girly just because it's total attention seeking. Usually a certain sort of player who has them too

Playing outdoor (5 or 11 a side) on a cold night, you can be absolutely certain that its the guys with the colouful boots who will be wearing the gloves/snoods/tights (Jesus..tights!!).

That really gets me. Go out and run around and you won't get cold...your pnk boots might get muddy though

This aspect of the game needs to be looked at.

Keepers should be able to throw it out or kick it out from their hands (from within the six yard box).
    The placing of the ball
    + the backing up slowly
+ the tapping of the studs against the goalpost before running to kick the ball out is painful to watch and needs to be speeded up somehow.

    Any ideas??

10 second limit, if its broken then a yellow card. Easy.

    That's not the point.
It slows the game down and is boring to watch.
    Can we speed it up??

Well the 6 second rule for holding the ball doesn't seem to be enforced too much so don't know if this would make any difference.

Any keeper that does it is booked and usually thats the end of it, short of sending the keeper off theres very little that can be done about it unless the ref's clamp down and usually once a GK has been booked they dont delay after it.

This one is a tricky enough one to enforce also, I've only ever seen it blown up once and our GK was warned about it previously before the ref giving the free in.

He had been delaying the game 2 or 3 times before the warnig so it was fair IMO.

cant believe there are still morons who think its not "manly" to wear gloves or coloured boots!!

Who gives two craps what somebody else wears!

the 1950s called. Admitted they were wrong.

Not really about football but more to do with commentators saying the Lampards and the Terry's of this world.

ThT annoys me when they say the players names as if ghere are more than 1 of the player.

But your playing a game of football. Your running around a pitch. I can't understand how your hands could be cold if your running around being active? It's nothing to do with being "manly". If you didn't see professional players playing with them I highly doubt you would of ever worn them.

I agree to a certain extent. If your playing up front and your banging in goals and winning us matches I couldn't care if you where playing in your nude. But from my experience from playing with and against players is that there usually half arsed lads who are more about style than substance.

    Which is what bugs me!

    Football should have stop clocks.

Then you are going into American football game length

Not necessarily, American football has a lot time outs and reviews. Offensive leaves and defensive teams switch after punting or scoring. None of that happens in soccer.

Going by stats in the 2010-11 the ball was in play on average 62 mins

Oh okay, I thought you were referring to the length of the broadcast but I was wrong. I still wouldn't 90 minutes of action. It's amazing that you only get 62 minutes worth of action in a game. I read somewhere that a certain Stoke game a few years ago had less that 50 minutes worth of action.

There'll be 4 minutes injury time. So 90 seconds into it the ball goes out of play, play doesn't continue til 94.00, referee blows the whistle at 95.03. Yeah that ****ing makes sense.

I was with you up till this point. Multi coloured boots and tights are quite ludicrous, but there is nothing wrong with gloves to keep the hands warm. I know a guy with very thin blood. His hands are permanentlycold. Running about for an hour does not change this. Activity has nothing to do with it. Where as my hands are nearly always warm, even while doing nothing. People are different. Blood circulation and all that jazz.

The phrase "He should concentrate on his football".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 214 ✭✭Batigol309

Why are goalkeepers sent up for corners at the end if chasing a goal....and there is a defender or two covering outside the penalty area?? Usually it is the "small" left back or central midfielder.

Now if its a huge awkward keeper like David James or Manuel Neuer then fair enough but in some cases its a regular sized keeper (I remember Given, Federici, Reina coming up)....surely a professional defender where a big part of their game is heading the ball would be of more use in the box than the keeper....

And the fact that if someone is a decent professional left footed player...then it has to be said..."he has a great left foot on him"....I should hope so!!

How many great right footed players are lauded....(Beckham maybe???)

these were two rants I had with my brother earlier....good thread

    The phrases

    "I'll tell you what .."

    and

    "take a bow son".

A cultured left foot is another popular one.

What does it even mean in that context??

'If that had gone in it would have been something else'

Of course it ****ing would have been.

That's a fair point but I would bet my wages that very few people who actually wear gloves suffer from this problem.

The main reason people wear gloves on the pitch is for the image of something. Not because they suffer from poor circulation.
