Lettuce or salad leaves the crunchier the better really fills a sandwich and makes them more substantial. I also like mustard on ham or horseradish on beef slices just to give them a bit more kick.

People will probably think I'm saying this just to be different, but honestly, nothing beats a kit-kat sandwich with white bread or porridge on brown bread.

I'll be honest I was relieved this last word said hungry as I thought a food fetishist was on the prowl here

Get into making your own bread. Home made not mass producing bread is certainly the first step for me in making the ideal sandwich.

From there it really depends on a few factors as to what the contents should be - such as time of day, hunger level and more.

Never mind sandwiches. Bagel toasted with butter, red onion chutney, fried forest mushrooms and hickory smoked bacon.

Wraps are way nicer - goats cheese, ham, tomatos, leafy spinach. Whole load of nom

Did you know when you cut a sandwich in half diagonally you then have 2 sandwiches.

Shred a chicken breast into a bowl, add sweet corn and a dollop of mayo, mash together.
Spoon into wrap, add cheese, BBQ sauce, and jalapeños if you're that way inclined.
    Toast. Eat.

Well, I'm not sure if it's technically a sandwich but here goes:

Pita bread filled with salad and falafel

Warm, crunchy pita bread pouch, lined on one side with hummous, on the other with something spicy (harissa is good for it), then layered lettuce, thinly sliced onion and cucumber topped with two or three hot falafels crowned by a good dollop of tsatsiki.

    Ab-so-lute heaven, that is.
