Car hire company/website for debit card

Im going to italy for weekend in two weeks and need to hire a carl i dont have a credit card only visa debit. Anyone recomend a company or site that will accept debit cards and wont screw me over with charges. Got stung in spain during the summer for using a debit card.

I booked car hire through Argus and told them that I didn't have a credit card. They found a company that would take a debit card and I had the choice of leaving a €500 deposit or taking out their full insurance.

As it turned out, someone reversed into me in a car park and drove off, so the insurance paid for itself.
