It's hardly as if plants are sentient and communicate with each other in the same way that animals do. It's no more shocking than bacteria "communicating" with one another.

Well yes but it's interesting and shows there's alot going on that can't be seen. Except by me.

I don't know that anyone ever has called me a vegetable.

I could show that to someone the first time they call me a vegetable, if you like. I'm meeting you halfway here. I like to think that's what an aubergine would do.

That lovely smell of freshly cut grass is actually a distress signal that acts as a warning.

Not like there's much they could do, anyways........

Pretty sure if someone is calling you a vegetable and you show them proof vegetables react to sounds they would just tell ya to get the fcuk up just that bit louder.

Can you report someone for being homophobic if they don't do anything homophobic to you?

    Vegetarians are cruel, unfeeling people.
Everyone knows a carrot screams when grated.
Potatoes, the earth's little lobsters, boiled in their skins...

I can't find the poem online, but I've always liked it.

I love this bit from the op's link.
"Everyone knows that plants react to light, and scientists also know that plants use volatile chemicals to communicate with each other, for instance, when danger - such as a herbivore - approaches," Dr. Gagliano said in a university news release.

Daisy : "Hey Rosie, there's a big feck'in cow coming this way, and she's probably gonna ate the heads off us"

Rosie : "Holy **** Daisy, what should we do" ?

    Daisy :

It works against smaller herbivores though. Trees will release a chemical when being attacked by caterpillars which tells other trees around, those trees will then increase production of toxins in their leaves to fend off the insects.

I love hearing things like this it shows how little we really know and there's still many fascinating things to be discovered.

Make the movie"The Happening" less awful
