Can i haz a Supra as a 1st car?

    ok so im going on 29 and my wheels have been a motorbike (200hp one) so far with a squeaky record..
    i dont have a license for a car but am thinking of it now as winters on a bike are getting old.

    i've been wanting a supra since 17 but it was a pipe dream. now im eyeing up a twin turbo manual one and i know its an annoying noob question but i dont move in car circles so no idea what the story is.

    wondering will i even get quoted for this car on a provisional?

    Not a hope on a provisional. Even with a full, clean licence at that age, quotes would still be ridiculous.

    Haha, good luck man. You'll have nothing like superbike performance from a car for a good few years, man.
    You might get insurance on GS300, same TT engine. It'll cost a bomb though.

    well , why not ? i had nissan skyline R33, 2.5 , in 2006, with no ncb ,first car in Ireland ... but i had 8+ years eu license though ...

    It was hard to get insurance, just one broker gave me quote .. 2150 euro... with 4 k excess though ... but i was road legal :)

    still with that broker.:)

    If op want, i can pm brokers name, or if mods doesnt mind, i cant put it here :)

    thats true, i think, he has to get license first , drive micra at least 5 years. :)

    again thanks everyone for answering the question, i know its annoying as lots of people ask me can they get a 1000cc race bike but they dont have a bike license yet :pac:

    Would 3rd party insurance do? Use the drivers extension that some companies offer now, including liberty....

    I think, that wont work well, you have to get your own car, and insurance on your own name, i think named driver experience not really taken in to account,when getting such car :/ , get full license first , then get small car like micra, golf for couple years.

    Or you can get learners license, but register car on your uncle, sisters or fathers name, get insurance on their name,and put your own name as second driver, it will might work , but i am not sure.

    its a musclebike which shall remain anonymous :o
    a real 173whp after a known 16% loss in transmission = 206bhp, although the dyno was calculating 230+ that day lol

    Get a chaser in from Japan they have come down in price and they wouldn't be a million miles off a Supra performance wise handy enough to insure too

    Serious machine.. you'll feel like you're standing still in a supra and they're not in anyway slow.

    I'd say you'll find insurance somewhere there are loads of dodgy ways of getting a car on the road I've heard of lads using a german company and having €8000 excess on their policies.

    By the sounds of it your bike insurance would be a bit of a grey area so that might be you only option to insure a supra on a provisional licence.

    3rd party extension does not cover other vehicles that you own - specifically for this reason.

    why supra, get nissan skyline GTR ... depend of budget R32, r33 or R34. 2.6 twin turbo 4x4 . my hart will always stay with skylines :) unfortunately just in dreams .... yet. :)

    OP, i really really wanted skyline, since i was 15, more then i wanted my next breath. In reality if you want to insure it properly there is not a hope to insure it in your situation. I had to be at least 24 and pick up 3 NCB and still go sneaky way about it to get r33 gtst insured ( buy, the car and ask insurance company to update policy :p ).
    Even now it will be very hard to insure skyline/supra even if you got full license with 5billion NCBs.

    The best thing you can do now is just apply for license, get full B license and drive atleast for 2-3 years in your own policy name.

    If you ring every insurance company and broker you can find, surely someone would insure you even if the premium is 5k/6k

    hmmm. never seen them here in Ireland. Looks nice, .. but is there service parts available in Ireland ? brakes, clutches, etc . ? my friend has R34 skyline, struggling get some parts.

    Fraud if the family member doesn't actually own and drive the car as the main driver.

    My third party exemption specifically excludes spouses cars (or my previous one did - not sure).

    there are few chasers around and those are proper PIMP mobiles. I WOULD LOVE one, but they go for crazy crazy money.
    As for parts, there are stuff that you can get from TOYOTA itself, but most of the lads, just order stuff from online websites. I am pretty sure runnings costs of chaser and supra wont be very different.

    whatever you plan when you ring about getting a car insured tell them that you've bought the car already not that you're thinking of buying one. They're legally obliged to quote you for a car you own afaik.

    I'm sure you bike insurance is perfectly legit ;)
