I love the fact I need to leave the box plugged in all the time, otherwise I receive "Not subscribed to this channel" for all channels but the ironic Craig doyle one (I don't watch TV often :P ). But yeah their broadband is excellent, Skys broadband will just be reselling Eircom/BT bitstream so it will be as slow as the UPC remote, lol :P

The issue is the boxes they use are a pos. Arn't they meant to be bringing out a new one soon which fixes the lag issues? Not much use for current subscribers though

Got the tv/broadband/phone in 2 years ago, loved the broadband and phone, but hated the tv. Was slow, horribly designed remote and that stupid information channel when trying to change channel is the worst thing about the whole shíte thing!!

When they changed terms of contract, changed back to Sky and have never look back!

Most of the time, when someone calls to your door selling Sky, they can match, or even provide more channels than UPC, for the same price for a 12 month contract, and you don't have to deal with the UPC crap TV.

Mine gets confused at times and decides I must have pressed '5'. Always 5, never any other number. And that of course brings me back to the craig doyle channel (a phrase which sends shivers down my spine).
It's comforting to know i'm not the only one that this happens to.

Yes, go to guide, press the green button for settings, scroll down to lock/unlock. Then scroll to channel 100 and hit the yellow button. Enter your code, hit ok and never have to see that fückwit again.

    Oh God, thank you!

is it just me or are they the worst control ever?it never reads what u are pressing til its too late,i.e. u want say, number 407,press it on remote but it only registers the 7,then automatically goes to page 100 where craig f****ng doyle is saying how easy on demand on upc is,the annoying tit!As for the on demand, that just seems to turn itself on when it chooses and takes an eternity to get back to the tv grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:mad:

If you press backup twice on the UPC remote (the wide silver one), it goes back to the last channel you were watching.

Has anyone managed to successfully use a different remote with their UPC box?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭willmunny1990

OP nailed it. I have the exact same problem.

I always find it gets caught on the third number, as in if you i want to go to 402 it'll type 40 no bother but then it gets stuck when i press the 2, then it just defaults back to 100! So annoying!

It's astonishing that in 2012 they can't make a decent remote that works.

This never happened with my old chorus box and remote by the way, that thing was the bomb and i don't know why they ****ed with it, the one i have now is a slow piece of ****, On demand isn't that bad but it does get stuck and it's slow but that's what you get with UPC.

I would upgrade to Sky but i need multiroom and Sky's is overly expensive.

By the sounds of things, a remote detonator perhaps.

This. A million ****ing times this. Try to go to Sky Sports press 401, remote only recognises 4 and 0 before sending me back to that smug Craig Doyle clown. Try to flick up through the channels and get to 3E before the UPC box decides I should be watching Snooki degrade herself again and goes to MTV.

    PRRRRIIIIICCCCKS!!!!

has anyone noticed that when you try and fast forward through a programme and then press play, it never stops where you want it? It's always at least 60 seconds later than you wanted. Hape of shyte.

I must be the only one with a UPC remote that has a <-- button to return the last channel

(Thanks to the OP for starting this thread, very therapeutic!)

Aparently a new Horizon box is on the way, meant to be a serious improvement over the current ones that are ridiculously slow.. funny enough I remember the previous guide was actually much snappier and then this "upgrade" was performed

Thank Jesus, its not only me that has this problem. :( Is this happening with a specific remote and digital box or is with them all? I am using the grey digital box with the grey remote?

My folks have have the black box with the slim black remote and they dont seem to have any problems.

I have sky, but any time I go to the brother in laws gaff and use their upc I almost end up throwing the remote at the tv. I thought it was something wrong with their connection. But after reading this thread, it's actually standard!
I got to the stage that if I'm over there I can't be arsed turning on the telly cos upc is so bad

I'm wondering what if instead of Doyle, there was Sasha Grey? Would we all complain that much? :D

Any chance this could be stickied in the UPC forum? (if such a thing exists...)

I wonder if Craig Doyle annoys Craig Doyle on channel 100.. UPC telly is beyond a joke..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭ghogie91

Hahaha crying laughing here i though i was the only one who had this problem hahahaha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,017 ✭✭✭Leslie91

I hate the remote too. Crap. How often do you pick it up and it is upside down, both ends are identical in width/feel = really poor design.

Also, what's with the losing on one's favourites from time to time, jeeeeeez. Have to go in a re-set them up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,324 ✭✭✭BillyMitchel

What really really pisses me off with digital boxes is when something is going to be recorded but the program starts late so then then the box goes off at the time its meant to but the program is still running for them extra few minutes!! So ****ing annoying.. BBC's and E4 are the worst for it..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 816 ✭✭✭padraig.od

I have the same problem. I rang them, they want 30 quid from me for a different remote. That would be the third one. I feel like I'm 5 again, having to stand up to change the channel. New boxes can't come soon enough.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,835 ✭✭✭✭cloud493

I'm considering taking the 150 quid hit to leave UPC and just going back to sky. ****ing ****e it is.

Remote is so unresponsive. It usually only picks up the last button in the 3 digit channel when i type it in.

    Press 3
    Loading Channel 3--
    Press 2
    Loading Channel 32-
    Press 3
    Loading Channel 3-- (da fuq?)
    error
    Loading Channel 100 (oh no)

"Hi, im Craig Doyle, have you heard about UPC's on demand service"

    Fúck Off!!!

Also some times turning on the box it accidentally switches off the telly.
