Any body know anything about CEC. I notice on the Ariva 250 an option to turn it on or off, it's on by default. If I have it on and turn-off my TV it will turn off the Ariva as well, which is handy. Just wondering what else can be done with it.

    Hi Everyone.

I have the Ferguson 250 combo box...firmware updated to V1.20B1 but for the life of me I cant delete/move channels and or add to favourites....Im probably doing something basic wrong but driving me nuts... When attempting to delete channels what Im doing is as follows:
    1. I go to the the TV channels list, select it and a screen appears showing the list of channels with a preview in the right hand corner.
    2. I then select the blue button-this is the one to delete channels (this then becomes active).
    3. I then select the channel I want to delete by choosing ok, a little blue x appears beside this channel and any other channels you select and want to delete.
    4. I select ok and then select back on the remote...you get a message then saying doing you want to save the new settings....I say yes....and then nothing changes......

    Any ideas....?

    Thanks
    J

Rather than deleting all the channels in a scan, why don't you setup a favourites list. Rename it Main channels, Sat & Saorview list or whatever you want then add the channels you want to this list and then resort within that favourite list ?

Delete should work. It only wont work if you have highlighted the NO button.

There is also a software channel list editor that you can take off the box, edit on a PC and load back. Its on the ferguson website under the model stb you have.

Yes this is also the case with my Samsung TV, on HDMI 1 it recognises it as an Ali STB and enables CEC. The whole advantage is that the remote will control your TV as well as the box (but it does this anyway through having the Universal type remote features). As to what else it controls depends on the other features of your TV.

Add RTE1 from 28.2 to your favourite channel list. Rename it Aertel.

Whilst it will say encrypted channel, the Aertel text is not encrypted and will work by pressing the text button.

Great tip!. That's what I call thinking outside the box (Set-top)

Why are RTE still broadcasting the old Aertel anyway? Will a software change ever get us the new Aertel on our Arivas or is it a hardware issue? Dont know why Im asking as I probably havent looked at Aertel for info in about 5 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 Colmos85

I think the new Aertel needs Mheg 5. Software upgrade would do this but dont know if it will ever become available from Ferguson.

I'm only 80% sure my info is correct so correct me if I'm wrong.

It's a softare issue, they simply dont load an mheg engine in the software to gather the data. The boxes are pan european rather than geared towards Ireland and the UK.

RTE are still maintaining the old aertel EBU text in order to supply Sky with this service. Shocking given it was discontinued on the Saorview Mux, despite being in the spec for Saorview and despite the fact that it takes a very small of space up on the multiplex.

For those with combo boxes this solution will have to be the compromise.

    Hey,

My Ariva 250 is acting strange, the terrestrial channels are all freezing and the network options rarely work. I upgraded to v1.20 and I still get the same results.
    Had anyone got similar problems?
My terrestrial channels were doing the same. The satellite channels were fine. But the aerial was to blame. I'm just using an indoor aerial as I live in an urban area. So I just bought a new UHF indoor aerial. Problem resolved. Bad weather does tend to mess up the signal though (as it does with the Sky dish too).

Any updates on these issues? I'm having the same problems (and lip sync)..

I'd like to know if the problem is with the Ariva box or the aerial. I'm getting my aerial moved up higher, but am I wasting my time?

I reckon its a firmware update, but I am amazed at how many different issues people are getting with these boxs, some suffer sync issues, others freezing, the apps are an ongoing thing i fear, have seen other issues elsewhere that effects some boxs and not others

You can change the bootlogo and the radio background logo on these by the way (confirmed).

For those who were sick of that dvbxtreme logo!

Is it possible to save a channel list to a USB stick from my box (upload them from box to USB) so I can then load the same list onto another box.

Moronic when you consider Europes biggest public service broadcasters still use EBU text.

I still have these issues, Im bringing the box to another friends house and see if there is the same issue with breaking up and freezing. I will post in the next few days with results. Im still not sure it its the aerial, an old coaxial cable or the box, but when you check signal its pretty good so I just dont know.

yes, with the proviso that both boxes are the same model and running the same FW version.

Good stuff. It will be very interesting to hear the results.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of people who cant see beyond it is "the boxes fault" rather their own cabling aerial type and positioning.

I live 57km from Mount Leinster, I have a solid signal that never deteriorates and I am using an indoor aerial! I must be lucky given I have 3 from the Ariva range and dont experience these problems.

Take it away from the box and look at your aerial setups etc. There is a quite simple reason for your issues.

i have a tv connected from the aerial out of the arriva to the tv and the reception on the tv on the terrestrial channels are fine and are not from the arriva to the same tv via hdmi.

So..... let try and figure out what your problem is then.

The loop out of the Ariva is feeding a signal to your TV's digital tuner would not rule out an aerial problem in any event. Not all tuners have the same threshold or the signal passed might be reduced.

    1. What does your TV's signal strength and quality say on the RTE channels when using the IDTVs own tuner from the signal passed on? Is it varying considerably ?

    2. Whilst viewing the tuner on the Ariva (rather than the TV) what does the quality and signal strength say quality and strength (pressing the white button also gives you a BER reading) What does that say numbers wise and does it vary.

    3. What type aerial are you using and are you using a amplifier of any sort.

The boxes do give trouble sometimes and show no signal for satellite and terrestrial but yet if you try another box every thing is grand.if you do a reset to factory default and then Rescan all your satellite and tres it be grand.

When I set up the Startup channel on my 250 to RTE1 Terrestrial and save. Then when I power it up again from standby I get a "No Signal" indication. Then I try the white button to see if the terrestrial channel has been found and it tells me that it is looking at "Arabsat" . Does anybody know what might be wrong in setting up the startup channel to RTE1 and getting this

Not sure whats causing this but as a workaround if you put the box on RTE and then do a dumpfile to a USB key, when you reload the dumpfile using USB userdb upgrade it will always power on with the same channel.
