Does anyone listen to John Kelly on Lyric?

I've just had the misfortune to be listening to this guy's show on Lyric (it was either that, or listen to Louis Walsh talking to Maxi on Radio One :rolleyes:)
I'm just wondering who the hell listens to Kelly's show? His music consists of the most godawful dirges I've ever heard. I know Kelly is supposed to appeal to a "minority audience" but I'm guessing you could probably fit all of Kelly's listeners into a telephone box these days.

Heard it once, brutal. Lots of 'out there' music. I sometimes think that people claim they like these never heard of bands because no one else does. Thus making them alternative, and unique.

The more Marty moves to the middle of the road, the more Kelly moves to the fringes. It sounds to me like they trying to do a collective balancing act

John kelly whether you like him or not is a good broadcaster, he just won his second PPi award for specialist music show and regularly attracts 30k listeners. In fairness some of the music he plays is a little niche to say the least but he doesnt just play this kind of stuff, he also plays plenty of jazz and classical too. His show makes a pleasant change from the regular format radio for me.

I guess Harry that in your own mind you chose the EVIL OF TWO LESSERS. In fairness Kelly does include some interesting jazz and classical pieces. The audience of 30,000 would suggest that someone is listening though. His show is an example of Lyric choosing a different path from the others methinks!

What was the point of axing his very popular evening show on RTE radio 1 to make room for more talk/drama/sports programs, only to turn around a couple of years later and put John "corkman" Creedon on the slot?

Yeah, I love his slot. An eclectic mix of genres from jazz, classical, contemporary. Also it is one of the few shows left on Lyric where you can hear some of the heavier and more "recent" composers like Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Stravinsky, makes a nice change from the endless musical and opera numbers. Plus JK is a highly knowledgeable and experienced presenter.

Does anyone listen to John Kelly on Lyric?
