Sure when he wins one - watch all the bandwagoners jump on board.

They want to slag him and then go " Oh did you see Shane last night, great stuff, always knew it". "Who is playing in the Heino at the weekend".

He just dropped one on 17 but played a blinder of a shot to the 18th green, packed top 10 so vital putt in terms of position coming up.....

Hole it on the 18th for top 5 by the looks of it which would be a super week.

He got it, superb birdie, looks like a top 5 hopefully

He has to get a good world ranking boost, very strong field....

    Delighted, solo 5th.

Top 5 were Hansen, McIlroy, Donald, Poulter, Lowry.

Great to see him mixing it with the best.

Reading some of the post from the past week here you'd swear this was the weightwatchers forum rather than golf. :)

    Well done Shane. Great result.

    when is up in qschool?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

Shouldn't need qschool after this result.

Cracking result again for Shane, one dodgy swing on 9 apart I thought he looked as good as anyone out there.

Very much looking forward to seeing him in the matchplay, if he's on form he'll be hard stopped. His game is all about shooting at flags, which means piles of birdies but a big number or two along the way, which doesn't mean as much in matchplay.

Some change in his targets after 2 super weeks.

He's as good as qualified for next years Open now, top 30 in order of merit qualify.

Probably will be WGC ranked around the 60 mark with harrington after today.

Masters, U.S open and WGC's all on the radar now with another push.
Top 50 end of year for masters.
Top 60 next summer for U.S open.
Top 64 for world match play.
Top 20 in race to Dubai make it to Cadillac as well.

Hope he can keep it up, still 3 big money events in the next 4 weeks. (HSBC, Singapore and Dubai).

Not really, because the argument here is that he could be a better player if he lost some weight. No one has said that he isnt a good golfer, just that he is not being all that he can be.
Winning a major doesn't prove that he wouldn't be all the better (and possibly win more) for losing weight.
Some of the sports names given here help to show the difference between those who are willing to go the extra mile and those who aren't. IMO Not losing weight when you are clearly overweight shows a lack of drive to be the best you can be.

He prioritised breaking into the Top 50 over potentially playing for a card in the States. Best way to do that is by playing in the big tournaments over the next few weeks, starting with the HSBC next week.

Edit - He should leap-frog Padraig in the rankings after this result, first time in forever that Paddy hasn't been the highest ranked ROI golfer.

No I'm afraid I don't agree with being clearly over weight shows a lack of drive. Obviously Shane's weight at the moment is not effecting his stamina towards the end of a long season with his recent performances. Everyone is entitled to there own opinion so I'm not going to go on about this anymore. I'm just happy to see Shane performing at the highest level.

Again I disagree, how can you say that he wouldnt have performed better if he was fitter and carrying less weight? Maybe he would have won today and won by more last time?
I'd be pretty sure that, if asked, his preference would not be to be overweight.

Sure, his body weight is probably a bit above what it should be (if he wanted to excel as a runner or a swimmer).

Is there any evidence that ultra lean golfers shoot better scores ?

In golf, a player is just standing up when addressing a ball, his heart beat would never go above 70 or 80 during a round. Being thin might not be a huge advantage.

He doesnt need to be like Nicholas Roche or Alistair Cragg in the Body Mass Index stakes.

Whatever formula he has at the moment is paying dividends, his progression as a pro is really good.

I've no doubt shane would be a slightly better player if he was fitter.

Standing still taking shots means athletic ability is not required but after a 4-5 hour walk fitness would and does in no doubt play a part. As the body gets tired the mind gets tired. When the mind gets tired the odd mistake might be made.

Concentration level might drop which is so punishing at the top level.

He is doing fantastic though so let's just congratulate him for that.

Rory was a bit of a pudding when he arrived on scene first. He is in good shape now. Has this helped his game???

    Impossible to know.
