    OK, fair point, my mistake.

Take the Irish out of the team and I'm sure things would have been lower key.

And all of them in peak physical condition, unlike Lowry.

Illustrates my the point I was making. If he's recognised that it's not the way to go and learns from it then that's all I was hoping for.

B*llox. If he wants to lose weight he can. If he can't then he doesn't have what it takes to be the best.

    Su ???

Who won MOST Euro Order of Merits EVER ?

    Explain ?

You have all the answers to the questions that suit.

Actually, he is making a joke of little fit boys by making cuts at invites.

On the weight issue....Monty was hardly a stick insect yet it didn't stop him being European Number 1 for 7 years in a row and still competitive upto a few years ago.

The weight thing we clearly disagree on, I refuse to cast blame on him without knowing the full facts that's all.

Look the tone of your posts very much suggests that you won't be successful unless you are pretty much tee-total and that the Irish have a drinking culture which is detrimental to sporting success unless it is avoided at all costs. I then present you a list of sports people who drink or have drank in the past and you say its fine if they're in peak physical condition. So which is it?

    7 IN A ROW.

It is the same with all sports. Populism perpetuates fads.
Golf is a hand eye co-ordination game. A couple of fitness dudes are at the wrong party. They couldn't hit a golf ball if they tried half of them.

It is not a true sport. You become fit due to all the walking and practice. Shane Lowry would be a lot fitter than you think.

    I'd take Woosie over Kaymer.
I'd take Monty over Ross Fisher.

His record is no doubt impressive, but he has no wins in the really big events, where the great players win. No majors and none on the US Tour. He didn't choose to play in the US. Pity, we could have seen if he had it. McIllroy wins where it counts, when it counts. So yes, Monty conquered Europe, but that does not put him up there with the greats. If Lowry aspires to follow McIllroy then he needs to do what he has to do.

    Bull****.

How about Woosie - I can grab a straw if you want. What will you say when Shane wins a major (fat as you would say).

Also , why did Tiger get injured ?

Also on Monty - were you one of the Bandwagoners on the Ryder Cup then - of course what monty did , did not count.

I'm saying that in most cases you will be MORE successful if you follow a more disciplined regime, cut out most of the sessions and trim down a bit. It all depends on what he defines as successful I suppose. Maybe he'll be happy with the odd win here and there. He'll still make a few million and he'll be the joy of Offaly. I just couldn't be happy with that if I were him and with his talent. I'd be aiming to give myself the best chance of reaching the top.

Yeah, of course I was.

If Shane wins a major then I will say fair play to him, like everyone else. Just because I express an opinion on his physical state does not mean I don't want him to succeed. If I didn't want him to then I wouldn't give a hoot whether he was like a dart player or a high jumper.

Tiger got an injury. What's YOUR point?

Because he was swinging too fast, due to his emphasis on power.

As for darts, i think you are getting it, golf is just above darts, you are talking about it as if it is the Olympics.

Can you explain how the (fat bloke as you would say) had a 64 after a piss up.

Su - have you issues with fat people ?

This is what it was all about - a few days of a party for **** sake

Now you're being ridiculous. What's Tiger's injury got to do with a discussion on Lowry? I have no problem with fat people (as you've called them) but when it comes to a professional sport like golf it is a medical fact, not just my opinion, that carrying excess weight will only have a negative effect on stamina. Stamina is important through a long tough season, so if I see a professional sports person not giving himself the best possible chance then I'm allowed to comment. We don't see any excess weight on players in say the Premiership, and there are strict rules imposed on them when it comes partying. What's that all about? Why not just allow them to do what they like and sure as long as they turn up for a match then that'll do?

    Anyway, heads and brick walls.

Solid 69 today, remains tied 4th on -11. Will still be tough to finish top 5 as field is well packed around him with 12 players on 10 or 11 under. Looks like he'll be in the exact same 3ball as well tomorrow only 3rd last group instead of penultimate.

And the best of luck to him tomorrow. I'd say there'll be some party if he wins!! :pac:

Ya cant blame the lad for celebrating his first pro win, there will only ever be one first. I'm sure when he wins again it will be much more subdued.

Even a top 5 finish would be great for him tomorrow.

On a side note, the smog is ridiculous!

He isnt even *that* heavy. Saw him at the mullingar scratch cup this year. He's not half the weight he looks on tv

maybe so - the camera is adding more than the normal 10 pounds in this case though! Best of luck tomorrow. unlikely that he can win on that course 5 back but a top 5 finish would be great for him.

Again - what the hell has the Prem League got to do with golf ?

He has no plan to play alongside Van Persie any day soon.

A top 5 finish in a field of this quality would be a great return. Good money and ranking points available also.

I think lads on here need to give Shane a break. So what if he is carrying a bit of weight. I'd love to be overweight and playing professional golf. That fat lad has earned over €700k this year. He has won two European tour events in the last three years. The only Irishman to win a European tour event in the last three years!! Westwood has always struggled with his weight and Clarke won a major last year. I'm sure Clarke did not hit the gym after his major win!! And hopefully a few lads here will be eating there own words when Shane wins a major....

I agree with the weight thing. He's particularly unhealthy looking for someone who is supposed to be a professional.

And I would rather be a healthy weight than be fat with loads of money. What's the point in having money if your having too many sausage breakfasts. You don't be around long to enjoy the money.

Why? What does winning a major have to do with being overweight?

Some are saying on here that to be the best you have to be in good physical condition. The best players win majors?? So I'm hoping that Shane Lowry wins a major and becomes one of the best no matter what his appearance or size be. Hope this helps with your confusion
