Apparently St Patrick was gay too....and the book of Kells has illustrations of men 'embracing' all over it.....

Cuchulain = Irish God....God has spoken he blesses same sex unions ....apparently all over the book of kells...apparently even in early Christian Ireland they were gay and loving it

I demand same sex marriage now...we are offending our ancestors...

Seriously in light of this a law against same sex marriage is F**KING blasphemy..

And lots of bards and Filí were gay too...makes sense

If Cuchulain was Bi there is not a true Irish man who can be against it.

Always thought there was something suspect about those hurlers. Still can't be bad if it doubles your chances.

No real surprise to me, homosexuality always existed. Ancient Greek men went about holding hands with each other, seemed the thing to do.

If you follow the evolution line of things...apes are highly bisexual.

Society feels a need to dictate how a body should function, rather than letting what should be just be.

Cuchulain was by no means a God. Myth yes, supposed son of a God.

This wiki quote seems to suggest something odd on topic however
Cúchulainn throws a light spear at Ferdiad's chest, causing him to raise his shield, and then picks up the Gáe Bolga between his toes and thrusts it through his anus upon which the barbs spread throughout his body, killing him.

They were merely exchanging long protein strings. If you can think of a better way, I'd like to hear it.

OH YEAH..apparently they were lovers..thats the whole thing about their story being so poignantly tragic....they loved each other!!!!

Fear Dia , Man of God ...was gay....

Guys the moment we legalize gay marriage the curse is lifted ....the country is saved....

If Cuchulain was here he would be kicking Fianna Fáil ass and beheading bankers left right and center and saying 'hey where are my rights?'

It is said Cuchulain will return when we need him....

That's kind of the tragedy of the story. They've got a whole gay-dude-version of Buffy/Angel's thing going on. #ShowingMyAge

I must say I don't recall hearing that "spear through the anus" version of the story back in school though. :pac:

Homophobia is a Jewish/Christian/Islamic phenomenon. The majority of other societies throughout history had an anything goes policy towards sex.

The reason must have been because women didn't shave or wear make-up back in the day. :pac:

Maybe everyone was just more attractive back then, and everybody rolled like The Todd as a result.

I'll be honest, I choose to photoshop the bodyhair out of my visualisations of the past. It's much prettier that way.

First Michael Collins and now Cuchulain in the space of a week - the gays have all the best heros.

Oh nurse, i've got gay envy. I'm probably the only straight in the village.

Cuchulain was an Ulsterman, strange folk up there
Who knows what they get up to

He wasn't a good Munsterman like Brian Boru

I think I understand why straight people often dislike/resent gays...

It's because gay people are *better* at life.

Gay people are better at marriage (they have half the divorce rate of straight people)

Gay people are less likely to be obese and are better educated than the non-gay population.

And while I can't find a study to support this, I think we can all agree Gays are substantially better dressed.

Make up's been around for a very long time. For men and women. Neandertals it seems had body art, with added glitter with shell pendants and bird feather trimmings. Funkaaay.

Later on women plucked/waxed/sugared their hair too. Egyptians even went so far as to shave their heads and wear wigs on top. They used the ash from burning frankincense mixed in oil for eyeliner(kohl). They had lippy too IIRC. Ancient Greek women would look odd today mind you. Helen of Troy would have been dark haired* with pure white makeup piled thick with big round dots of red on her cheeks and smaller red dots on her forehead. She wouldn't have looked like this anyway.

As you said SS Sea Sharp homophobia is an Abrahamic religion thang as a general thing, though other cultures had varying attitudes to it. IIRC Romans were odd on this score. It was OKish to be the giver in a homosexual encounter, but shameful to be the receiver.

*apparently they didn't have a specific word for blond at that stage as it was so rare among them. The blond genes came later, likely after the Celtic invasions.

Gay men? Gay women? Bisexual men or women? As I see it there's no real good reason to replace one set of stereotypes with another.

That said I have noted among gay folks I know that gay male relationships* seem to last for longer(once they're past the early 20's experimentation thang), with much less low level dissatisfaction going on compared to straight longtermers I know. Maybe they work on the relationships more becuase of the straight worlds external pressure? Maybe they work on them more, because they take more time to make it more longterm? Maybe it's a gender thing too outside the sexual element? Men will generally get on better with men and women will generally get on better with women, so maybe there are fewer misunderstandings?

    * I'd know many more gay men rather than gay women couples so hardly statistically solid, though the latter I do know last a looong time too

Sure isn't God himself gay? He likes to be worshiped, He never married, the one and only time he had sex with a woman he had to role play as a holy spirit to get the job done, his place is so fabulous that people literally pray that they'll get to see it some day, he knows everything there is to know about, well, everything.

You can Google and find the methodologies used in each study. Generally, the studies on marriage use 'same-sex' marriage to be 'gay'. They don't actually investigate if someone is bi-sexual; but I'm sure plenty of 'straight' marriages include a person who is actually bi-sexual too (and some would argue everyone is bi-sexual, to some degree).

Other than the marriages, which are generally recorded - most of the studies are survey based. So, it's up to the participant to self-identify.

Studies involving religion are done the same way. If you claim you are Muslim, you are, for the purposes of that study.

Finally, it's not a stereotype if it's true.

His sexuality isnt a big deal. Even if he was gay or bi it wouldnt bother me. Imho sexuality is a very small part of one's personality.

Fair points, but I think make-up back then was more of a fashion statement than a way of looking more attractive. (I'm very conscious that that point is open to debate with beauty being in the eye of the beholder and all that.)

In a world where the most attractive women you've ever seen looks something like
this,, sexual preferences might be a little more ambiguous.

I'd argue that if you sent the average Halloween costume slutty nurse back in time to Greece, she'd cure a lot of people of their gheyness.

Just thinking about this now. Maybe gay/lesbian/etc relationships (after the experimental stage) are less influenced by the media. Apart from one or two shows down the years, I have noticed very little mainstream portrayal of gay relationships. Whereas in straight relationships there, Bill, it might be easier to slip into stereotypical behaviour and resignation when there are little fights "I'm a man and I will not talk about it because emotions are for women" and "I am a woman and my man doesn't understand because he is a man" type crap.

I could be way off though!
