Where can I get a heavy light stand (that won't blow over)?

    Hi all,

On a windy day, even light wind, my current light stands can be blown over fairly easily (they're cheapo Amazon ones).

Instead of investing in sandbags, I was just going to see if anyone knows of any light stands out there that are bottom-heavy at all or more resistant to being blown over?

    Cheers :)

C-Stands are a good bit sturdier than your average light stand, but they're heavy and expensive. To be honest though, I still sand bag them, even in the studio, just to be safe.

I don't think there's anything on the market that's completely wind resistant right now. Light stands tipping over in the wind is more likely to be the fault of your modifier more than the actual light stand itself. Soft boxes and umbrellas make for quite an efficient sail ;)

Yeah, I was thinking sandbags were probably going to be the dreaded purchase. Ah sure...

Does anyone know if sandbags are a good stabiliser for umbrellas? Or will the umbrella still tip over regardless of the sandbag (I'm not talking about following tornadoes around, just general windy Irish weather).
