After Hours is one of the few threads I post on regulary on boards. It's great for the banter and the laugh. But a bit judgemental IMO.

Could be a great forum - some very interesting topics/discussions, some great funny, sharp, intelligent contributors; even occasional funny trolls. But it's ruined by thicks.

It's not the open minded liberal talk shop it was intended to be.
The standards in moderation vary too widely, some of the mods get it but sadly there's a few who just delight in closing threads to wallow in the thanks whoring of their sewing circle.
Boards is a wonderful mine of information & a great debating forum but for real humour there's far more suitable sites.

I like it except for all the posters to try to be witty/funny and fail 90% of the time

I used to spend an awful lot of time mooching around AH, and Boards.ie in general.

Took a break for over a year. Recently came back, and currently not that impressed. Not what it used to be like, and all that.

Ah damnit, I've spilled nostalgia all over the place.

Doubt it was ever intended to be anything, just hoped not to be infested with mentalists. Sadly hopes aren't always fulfilled.

If I never saw another Israel/Palestine thread I'd be happy - same folks, same arguments and boy does it get petty.

Trust me, that's not just confined to boards.ie

I have a great view of all the thicks and loons from up here on my high horse.

I have a few questions for you Moo.

    1) How high is this horse you are currently on? Please give your answer in imperial measurements.

    2.

    i) How are on After Hours on a high horse? Smartphone? Laptop?
ii) Are you effectively able to ride a high horse and post on boards at the same time or does the horse have to remain stationary?
iii) How is the Wi-Fi signal being up on a high horse?

I'm looking forward to your answer Moo.

Lurked on here for years, always a great read and laugh.

One name and one thread sums AH up for me and that's Feeky McGee and his grinds teacher.

What's going on with the dental plan? My choppers are grand so I never really had a look at it.

AH is a great board, like many big forums its taken advantage of by alot of toxic sockpuppets, from what recognise almost all of them are the same person.

the moderation is spot on from own view,of course might be wrong but dont think ever see anyone who doesnt break rules or get confrontational in threads complaining about moderating.

now,if only other boards were as used as AH.

I really like AH, but sometimes the intolerance and hatred towards children here drives me mad. I try to ignore it, because I know its a piss take forum, but sometimes it really frustrates me.

The horse is 8' 7" high, from hoof to ear. It's on a raised platform 20 feet in the air. On the floor of this platform is an iPad, which is permanently logged into Boards.ie. I communicate my opinions to the horse via a complex system of neck massages. The horse then relays these opinions to Boards by stamping its hoof on the iPad's virtual keyboard.

We're accompanied by a group of orphans who spread word of our act throughout the local area when we arrive, and also scan After Hours for new threads in which I can post a witty-sounding first reply for many thanks.

I quite enjoy posting here, it can be very amusing most of the time.

I do wish though that posters would be so quick to allow threads to deteriorate into politician/church/police etc bashing or whinging about the economy. There's often a lot of intolerance/high horsing as well which really gets my goat.

And while all the messing about and joking is great I do feel sometimes people go to far for instance making jokes about some-one who has just died. I even seen jokes about paedophilia. Some things just should not be laughed at.

jd007! You're sailing pretty close to the wind. The last time I mentioned the above (between lines 5 and 8) I got carded. But I must say, you got it in a nutshell. Best synopsis I've seen. Keep up the good work.

I like the disorganisation. How for some reason, X is OK to joke about, but Y isn't, and it changes on an hourly basis.

There's some insightful people, some funny people, a huge amount of people who are the funny one in their office and all their friends think they should be on stage. But mostly it's bcause here's no other forum that moves as quickly that I can follow and I'm bored a lot.

I find there is a lot of very posts on After Hours which makes it worthwhile.

I'm amazed and disheartened by how right wing and conservative the overall view seems to be.

Makes me a bit sick actually. I blame the Celtic Tiger.

I think the moderation is far too heavy handed. Closing threads because they not viewed as worthwhile is not how things should be done. A crap thread will die of natural causes soon enough.

I agree with closing threads which are going to cause legal trouble or loads of abuse, but just because a mood things it's bad? No.
