Anyone feel the loss of Diaby has had a big impact on the team? I think his presence and drive in the middle of the park has been a factor in our flatness going forward.
I didn't think song was a big loss when we had diaby but now I do. we need some height in midfield

I don't think so, we've a better team than last year. Spurs are the only team I can see giving us trouble in the long run with Liverpool and Everton not far behind. We won't make third since Chelsea just look too strong to me and can't see either Manchester club slipping out of the top 3.

the norwich game was the worst performance of the season easily, which i'd say everyone agrees on, the first two weren't great either (put it down to lack of sharpness) as was the montpellier away match...

but the others have been at least decent, even the loss to chelsea there was opportunities to at least get a point, so i'm trying to find the positive from it by looking at it as a whole & hope it's only in isolation, time will tell i suppose.

But i feel it's a slight bit of an overreaction, bad performance - yes, season over - no, same old arsenal - TBC

or another reason for it could be the players were jet lagged after their 14/15 minute flight up there :pac::pac::pac: i shít you not http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/9628588/Arsenal-manager-Arsene-Wenger-defends-teams-absurd-private-jet-journey-from-London-to-Norwich.html

What is the story on Diaby? I know hes a constant sick-note but how long is he expected to be out for this time? Really hope Wilshere can hit the ground running fairly soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,713 ✭✭✭keano_afc

It doesnt matter how long he's going to be out for, as soon as he's back he'll be injured again. Its tough on him, his ankle is shattered and he physically isn't able to be a footballer. But Wenger's punt on him hasnt paid off, so its time to plan without him.

He should retire from international football imo, the extra rest when everyone else is off on international duty wouldn't be any harm.

Agree. Its time the club took him aside and explained a few facts to him regarding who is paying him. Can't understand that it has not been done already.

Nope, quality in attack. That's the problem.

It might be there and just need to be developed or we might need some more players.

When will Wenger learn that when a team parks the bus, lump balls into the box, works everytime for united, just like tonight.we still try to walk the ball into the net, teams know how to defend this now,its time to change tactics to suit different games.

i'd say the team will be laughing at them like everyone else will be, since arsenal are at home on wednesday

LOL Some of us have done deals with Ze Germans, swapping home tickets for both legs ;)

Shalke will probably have loads over for the game like Dortmund did last year :D

But that's exactly what Arsenal did towards the end of the Norwich game. Mertesacker even went up top to help with it. Didn't go too well though.

Truly a momentous day today...Arsenal live on RTE television, happens once in a blue moon. This on the day the analogue is switched off and we go fully digital. I'll take that as a good omen for the future. Big game tonight...Come on Arsenal!!! :)

It's a bit late to start doing it in the last ten mins,it was clear after ten mins it was gonna be one of those days, took him too long to change tactics,by then the belief had gone and Norwich had it.we need a plan b.we have giroud who is quality in the air but when we do actually cross or get a corner we can't beat the first man.

Kinda still sick from watching the Norwich game. There is fundamentaly something wrong when a team under performs by so much. Where was Coquelin ? - he might have stiffened the midfield and maybe allowed Arteta to be more creative. TBH I think we missed a big trick in not signing Vertonghen - he looks very dependable at Centre Back and would allow us to move Vermaelen into defensive midfield. I really like the look of Giroud but he was appalling last Saturday. That said the service he got was appalling - no wing play to cut the ball back - his talents are being wasted and he'll lose all confidence like Chamahk if we don't start to give him service. We need attacking wide players. If Theo isn't interested then let him go and replace him. Santos is also starting to look like he's only going through the motions. We are still not looking like a balanced team. Arteta is playing brilliantly but why is he being used as a defensive midfielder when we had a chance to buy M'Villa ? We're going to fail again because we can't mix up our game enough - it was so repetitive against Norwich - stop Cazorla and we're lost ... what is the point in bringing on Gnarby and Arshavin when Norwich had dug in for their 3 points ? I'm afraid to admit it but it looks like all that Arsene has done is sign players who make us look more like the "sideways, pass, pass, pass team" that is so predictable and easy to defend against. I can never figure why we didn't take a chance on Pienaar, Heitinger and Huntelaar after they showed so well against us when we played Ajax several years ago. We're stuck with players that no one wants - we've lost the ones we wanted to keep, and we're faced with the prospect of losing more if we don't shape up and achieve something this season - at the very minimum a League Cup or/and FA Cup. Schalke will have watched the Norwich game and basically decide to play the same way - only they have better players. Our home European record might be bust tonight, especially if they score first and early on - already again I feel we're at a critical point in the season and it's not yet November !!! I don't know where our goals are going to come from - if not Pod, Giroud, or Cazorla ... who else ?

I'll be optomistic and say a poor performance with a scraped 1-0 win ... but not confident

Peter Collins said our Champions League game against Schalke would be on live at the end of the Drogheda/Sligo Rovers game last Friday. Just saw an ad there and RTE are showing Ajax and Man City tonight instead!

Yes Sky Sports 4 and Setanta Ireland are showing it. Unfortunately I don't have them. Was looking forward to watching the game in the living room tonight! :(

Are we on anywhere other that Sky tonight?

EDIT: Just saw the above post

RTE commentary is 100% dung anyway :P I'd rather stream than watch a football game on RTE!

Fuck RTE. We've had to play second fiddle to Man Utd, Celtic and Liverpool for the last 15 years on RTE, somewhat understandable due to the fact that those teams have the most fans in this country due to the tendancy of the Irish fan towards being a glory hunter (or sectarian reasons in Celtic's case), but Man City do not have more fans in Ireland than us, why the hell should we play second fiddle to them?

(Oh, and no, I don't accept "because City are the champions/the better team at the moment" as an answer. In the three seasons Arsenal played in the champions league as English champions that didn't matter to RTE, we were still not prioritised.)

Indeed, a problem so glaring it wriggled it's way into pop culture by being a gag in a sitcom. If comedy writers can see it why can't Wenger?

I reckon they've changed games on RTE because City haven't won a game yet so have a lot more riding on it. I'm sure the fact that RTE sucks balls is also a factor though.
