    Hi all

As stated in the subject, I was wondering whether anyone has experience of getting a dress made in the US and shipped over? I saw on another thread there is a standard maximum import tax of 22 Euro. Is this all I'd be subject to pay or does it vary? Has anyone else had a dress made in the States?

    Thanks!

No VAT or Duty is applied if the value of the item being imported is less than 22 euro. This is extremely unlikely.

The import is liable for import duty of 12% (I belive for dresses) and the standard VAT rate of 23%. The duty is applied to the total cost including shipping. The VAT is applied to Cost+Shipping+import Duty
so if the dress was €1000 and shipping was €100 the import duty would be 12% of €1100 or €132
    the VAT due is 23% of €1232 (€1000 cost +€100shipping +€132 duty) = €283.36
Total amount due to be paid on import = €415.36 + whatever administration charge that the shipping company charges. Usually around €15 or €20

It adds a fair amount to brining stuff in.

If it goes to the an post customs depot which it more than likely will, on top of the tax you outlined above youll also have to pay 6e for them to send it out registered post. got caught with that last week.

We bought our (felt) flowers from the US and there was the 23% VAT added which we had to pay but no other customs charges.

I have ordered my dress from a US site also, which will be subject to VAT and customs.

However I used this site to get a rough idea of what it will be - http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/
I then factored that into the budget for my dress.

    Thanks for all your replies!

That website is very handy... Though it all adds up quite a bit. Good to know though.
