Does anyone know when / why the geo blocking for RTE Players has changed.
Previously you used to get all home (Irish) produced shows (no US shows, sport etc).
But for the current "season" of most non education (boring) RTE shows they have now fallen under the geo blocking web. So republic of telly, hardy bucks, the fear etc are not unavailable internationally.
So while there is alternatives for GAA / US shows etc there is no legal available alternative for these shows (other than getting a paid proxy IP)

All part of RTE's digital strategy for overseas viewers. Any programmes deemed to be "premium" programmes will need to be paid for on the RTE Player. Not in itself a bad strategy but RTE will have to make the content cheaper and of better quality than using a proxy.

Possibly so they can sell these programmes on the international markets. In the case of the Republic of Telly, there might be rights issues as it uses a substantial amount of video clips from other broadcasters.
