    Hi Folks

We've been looking for a few months now at wedding venues. What we really wanted was the whole country house thing (Bellinter, Village at Lyons, Ballymagarvey etc) but we just cant find what we are looking for. They are either way over priced or dont have a room big enough or funny layout or have hardly any accommodation.

So we are now looking at hotels. We didnt want to go down this route initially as we are not mad on most standard hotel rooms - think they just feel a bit conferency (no offence meant just our taste!). Could anyone recommend any hotels in the Leinster region that don't have that typical hotel feel or are maybe a bit different? Has anyone had their wedding in Dublin City? Could be an interesting option I've never been to a wedding in Dublin.

    Cheers

Off top of my head the step house seems to fit the bill. It's a lovely unique little hotel. Also consider Kilashee (old house, small though) tulfarris, brook lodge, Glebe house (not sure about accommodation but not far from Dundalk) and castle durrow.

Have a look at Moyvalley too.

Was just about to suggest Moyvalley, you can use the old house for the photos and drinks reception and then move into the new hotel for the meal, party and accomodation... best of both worlds really.

Darver castle in ardee. 15 minutes past slane or 25 minutes from airport going north.

b&g and guests get a side of the castle to themselves with a butler and kitchen.

I'll go on record and say that they are the nicest staff of any hotel/venue Ive ever been in and they are nowhere near the likes of BMV/Bellinter for price.

Did you try the Station House hotel in Kilmessan? We are getting married there next June and it has that old world feel to it. Its an old train station and the grounds are amazing.

The main function room can hold approx 180 people but i reckon 150 would be the most i would be comfortable with.

Leixlip Manor House, Finnstown, Killashee House, Palmerstown House, Roganstown Hotel, Portmarnock Hotel, Rathsallagh...

These are ones I remember looking up thinking they looked nice as country houses.

We got married in Kinnitty. I think there's 44 rooms, we had the whole place booked the night of the wedding, and the night after there were 4 people in the bar who weren't part of the wedding - basically, we had a castle to ourselves for a weekend, and it was brilliant!

We had our reception in Finnstown House in Lucan 3 weeks ago, it was amazing. I honestly can't say enough about the place, the grounds made gorgeous photos, the staff were lovely and the food was delicious and plentiful-one of my hubby's pals actually said 'all they were short of doing was getting a shovel for the mash' high praise from this particular guy
