What are the defining films of the 1990s? I'm not talking about the BEST films of the decade but more the films that people will be able to look back on in 30 years and get an accurate idea of what the time was all about?

    Have to go with :
    Braveheart.
    Forrest gump.
    Saving private ryan.
    Shawshank Redemption.
    American Beauty
    and of course THE MATRIX

another one i could have put in was
    Titanic
But to be honest i hate that film.

I think these would give someone an idea of what the 1990s were like:

    Wonder Boys
    American Beauty
    Magnolia
    Three Colours Trilogy
    Chungking Express
    Hana-Bi
    Se7en
    The Insider
    Requiem for a Dream

ahhh miss read post. thought he was after definining movies of the 90's rather than movies that defined the 90's.

from my list only american beauty stands up.

As for a film that defines my version of the 90's...... there isnt one.
