How are we going backwards? He took over from Stan and got us to two play-offs and our first tournament in ten years. We're also still in with a shout in this campaign.
He took over from Stan who had a inferior panel to choose from. He also had a proper assistant manager whereas Stan's right hand man was seriously ill and never recovered.
He'll be gone at the end of this campaign no matter what so I don't get why we should shaft him. A new manager would have to bring in his own ideas and completely change the system. This campaign would then be a write-off.
This team is getting worse every match. We won't qualify regardless and the only reason he's staying on is because of how stupid the FAI were in giving him a premature contract renewal. These players need change instead of a stubborn past it old masochist who leaves out players who do nothing wrong.

Time for a new manager... were going backwards tbh.

Gonna be a new record international defeat also I think! Currently stands at 7-0 vs brazil from the 80s AFAIK.

Time for Keano as manager :p

The Faroe Islands lost 3 nil in Germany and only lost 2-1 to Sweden tonight. I fear us going there on Tuesday, they've got to believe they have a chance of something while our confidence is on the floor.

Starting to look like it could turn into a fight for fourth with the results and especially performances so far.

Had Germany in my accumulator so I'm happy :P

Just need Colombia to beat Paraguay though....

The team played badly but it was the Germans. For me the scale of the result is most depressing and I think the players just let their heads drop seeing the quality of the opposition.

I don't have a problem with him getting a new contract. He fulfilled his job requirement and I wanted him for this campaign, regardless of the Euros. We faced three top ten sides at the Euros and another one tonight.

We're just crap, man. I think without him we would be worse. I don't see us playing much better under Mick or Coyle or whoever.

We'll be scrapping for play-off spots for a few years yet.

But scrapping for play-offs in a non-eye meltingly bad style of play. If you are any sort of manager at all then after narrowly beating Armenia you realize that you don't have to players for the long ball game. You do have the players for a half-decent attacking side. When they play the lone striker it's nearly always Doyle up front, who gives his all but doesn't have the physicality of Walters. Long's growth is being stunted by his lack of appearances. Remember when Trap gave him his chance and we nearly drew with Russia after being 3-0 down?

Fickle backlash I think not MNG.

Being a half-decent attacking side is great providing you are a half-decent defensive side. Ward, O'Dea, O'Shea, Coleman, St. Ledger, Dunne, Kelly. That's pretty much the defence we've got to choose from.

Central midfield? Whelan, Andrews, McCarthy, Fahey. Pretty much the options.

Okay we could attack better and maybe you could have Houlihan and Gibson in there but how is that team going to avoid being hit at the other end?

That is why we are the defensive beast that we are. One can disagree with the vision of Trap but you have to say it's gotten us somewhere. We have been in a far worse state.

We are no defensive beasts. Just every lucky with the standard of opposition we faced. In our last 5 competitive matches we conceded 16 goals.

And that's only being happening since the Euros. We never shipped as many goals in the past, even when they'd be played off the park by far superior opposition the scoreline would always remain respectable.

I bet Germany wish there was a bonus point system after a win like that,

The simple fact is that any time we have played a good team in competitive matches in the past few years, we have been disposed of rather easily. Had we drawn any of the other teams in the Euro play off's, we'd have been sitting it out again.

Trap's tactics worked against the "smaller" teams, but were found out against good opposition. After that miracle against Russia, Trap should have known his luck was running out and he needed a different tactic for the better teams. He still hasnt done it and now we're getting hammered against them. Add in the fact that poxy Kazakstan were able to put it up to us and it's hard to argue that we are definitely going backwards at a rather fast pace.

That being said, I'm off to bed. Have my theory test in the morning :D

Best of luck. Us PW'ers seem to be good at the driving tests.

We haven't been disposed of that easily. For 2010 qualification we got two draws against Italy should have beaten them in Bari and at home, before rattling the French in the playoff. In the past Euro campaign we only lost once to Russia 3-2 at home.

Something has happened since the Euros, the players have lost faith in Trap and his system and this is whole thing is starting to feel like the Titanic after the iceberg hit.

Good luck with the test man.

It's the Foley selection IMO. Here you had a genuine hard worker who in a normal set-up would have played a lot more. Then, just before the Euros he gets told he isn't as good as Paul McShane. It was well known he had family travelling just to see him on the bench. He lost a considerable amount of good will from people after that and seemingly that's where the players did too. Granted Croatia, Italy and Spain were far superior, but there was little fight.

Honest to **** I could write a thesis on sports psychology after following the Galway footballers for the last 10+ years.

Trap and the rest of them couldn`t give a f*ck tbh. The back 4 was a total mess(O`Dea and O`Shea should of both gotten sent off and not just for their dreadful performances). Germany were clearly better but like at the euros we made it so much easier for them. When did Trap think that Cox was a winger, what a total moron.

Make an account and just keep doing it over and over. You can mark anything you want for revision. It gives an explanation of the rule too in the answers. I marked any I got wrong and ended up with 84 questions marked. Went through them last night and got 71 right first time so it does work. Got the other nine first time this morning. Was delighted when I seen the real questions were a word for word match :D

10 penalty points?! I'd say there's a lot of points that don't get registered, people just scream at each other until one person tears off. Yeah though, I think I'm gonna go for a cycle.

There's a new-ish theory test now isn't there? Is it much different from the old one? I have the book about two years and never bothered to do the test so I guess I have to get the new one, yeah?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,996 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

IIRC, it's meant to be the same but 80 questions instead of 40.
