Spelling and grammar is usually the biggest tip off

They spelled "receive" wrong and there was way too many exclamation marks :P

Sure just change your password and it'll be grand!

There is a year long maths module, so far most of it is ok but I only did OL for leaving cert and for things like maths induction I found a bit difficult, however there is a drop in maths tutorial centre whenever you need it.
There is also a programming module that is year long, we have 3 hours of lectures of it per week and then 4 hours of labs and an hour tutorial.
There is also a Computer systems hardware module that is quite easy so far, and a web design module.
It is known to have a high drop out rate but I haven't noticed it much yet.

No, but the courses have similar modules, I know they have the same maths module (for first year at least) and I think they also are in the same web design module.

The Maths in first year is slightly above higher level. I did ordinary level for the Leaving Cert and struggled with it, but it is achievable, and they do have the Maths Learning Centre for help.
It's not all programming, but the semester-long two programming modules are core modules, along with the year-long Maths module (10 credits). There's a heavy emphasis on it, but in first year you also do Web Design, Computer Systems Hardware, Networks & Internet, Introduction to Operating Systems, Problem Solving, and Digital Innovation Creativity and Enterprise (business module basically).
The years after this are generally based on the knowledge you pick up in first year, you carry on with Java, learn more about operating systems, and learn new programming languages from second year onwards.
The drop rate has been high for the last few years, but I think they're expecting it to lessen because the points requirement is higher now, because of the bonus points for higher Maths.
It's a hard course, don't get me wrong (I'm repeating one module in first year :p) but if you work at it, and get help when you need it, you should get on fine.

I think there is some Maths throughout, I know in second year you do Linear Algebra.
Here are the modules currently being taught in the course, this could change, but the modules with "MS" at the start of the code are modules from the School of Maths. Like MS121 in first year - IT Mathematics. That page also covers any and all optional modules in the course - you have to make up 60 credits per year.

In 3rd year atm. Once you finish Linear Algebra in semester two of second year there no more pure maths modules doesn't mean you won't have to use maths though :P

Most are 18 I believe, in the first week our maths lecturer asked were there any 17 year olds and she was surprised to see about 20 of us.

General college going age. 17/18 upwards, basically. I know a girl doing International Relations who didn't turn 18 until March, so had basically the guts of 2/3 months left in her first year :p

Sounds like the course is very similar workload wise to when I did it back in 92-96. It's a pity to hear that you still need to keep a big eye on the projects and that it's still not a great course for going on the lash and having a bit of craic every so often. I remember keeping on top of projects a lot and having some free time but you couldn't afford to just take a week off and go off somewhere for Rag week or anything like that. Maths was a pain for me as well as I only did OL and found the HL+ course stuff tough enough to get through but I got there in the end. It was a fun few years though all in all.

Interesting to see that Linux is on all the lab PCs now. When I was there they ran DOS6 and Win 3.1 and two of my mates secretly put Linux on a few machines. Every so often it'd be twigged and the admin would wipe the partition. Fun days!
