Just thought you guys might like to know they changed our timetable, on Friday we now have the 3 hour Digital innovation, creativity and enterprise lecture :(
And there's now two different groups for Programming I.

NOOOOOOooooooOOOoOOoOOOoo! I saw it too but it said draft or sample in the top right corner so I was hoping that it was all some sick joke and later we could laugh about how someone almost got us out of bed on a friday :(

Look at the bottom right corner on Friday, we're only in on 3rd, 5th and 6th week, so it's only 3/12 Fridays that we've to go in :)

Just making sure, the lectures/tutorials/whatever after 11am were cancelled today, right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 39 Bumblebee Man

    Yep!

Just checked moodle there and Under DICE - MT100 it says:
"[FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif]Reminder: First lecture is Tuesday 25th September in the O'Mahony Hall, Helix at 2pm"

Just saw that there but I'm already home. It's not on my timetable either as I'd normally have practicals at this time.

    What am I missing?

Emailed Roisin yesterday about my timetable thinking that our computer programming lab(which was cancelled today)was clashing with DICE,she reply back the following:

    "Hi Eugene,

As mentioned in the email - CA1 students are not to attend the lecture tomorrow. Go to your lab. You will be briefed separately about MT100A (on Friday as far as I know)

    Hope that helps,
    Roisin"

So I went home at 11 today after being told programming labs are cancelled.
Problem is I got a txt from a CA1 student on our course saying he was at a DICE tutorial today at 2pm?
Confused as I have DICE on Fridays starting on week 3:confused:.

    "CA103 Student,

Just to let you know there will be no tutorial tomorrow (Wed) at 09:00.

I hope to see you at the lecture at 12:00.

    Regards,
    Monica"

So do all CA students have no tutorial tomorrow? I have no clue if I'm CA103 or not.

So is it all CA students that dont have the tutorial? Are there some groups we're broken into that I'm not aware of?

We have broken into groups, but no one has a tutorial tomorrow I believe.
We are split into groups for the tutorials you can get the list here I think: http://www.computing.dcu.ie/~gramamoorthy/CA165/overview/labs/allocation/index.html

Was wondering, where is the maths help center? Do I need to make an "appointment"?

The MLC is in the Henry Gratten on the ground floor. Works off a purely drop in basis, no appointments, but you bring everything with you. Notes, exercises, calculator, pens - they won't provide you with them. Room is CG10A I think.
Keep on top of Maths, if you think Angela is bad, you're in for a shock next semester! :P

    Thanks.

From the looks of it, maths is the only thing that I really need to keep on top off. Everything is more than doable, at least that's my impression after the first week. Maths though...

And yeah, I dunno if she's bad, but she just ****ing rushes through the examples, and it's hard to keep up, especially when I was an ordinary level student.

Did anyone else recieve an e-mail about having to re-validate their account because they have exceeded the mailbox storage limit?

I only have about 20 e-mails in my mailbox...... It doesn't make sense seeing as g-mail provides 25gb storage!

Yep, got that too, I filled out the form thing, though shouldn't have. :(

Okay grand! I thought it was phishing mail when I first saw it.

See, I thought it was Maths first, then other things caused issues... If you can stay on top of everything, you should be fine. You have some harder modules next semester, and a good few people struggle with the programming modules.
I had dropped down to ordinary level because I found it hard to get to grips and learn the higher level stuff, got a land when I saw it all again in college :p Her notes aren't the worst though, and look online, there's some great stuff floating around. I had to get somebody to teach me things like induction again, barely learned it!

Also, for people in the class with a Facebook account and who haven't already joined, there's a Facebook group for the class here. :D

Lads, don't ever click on links in emails like those. The DCU (Gmail) mail storage is massive - if you get a mail saying you're over your mailbox storage limit, IGNORE IT.

    oops

edit: to be fair though the email address it comes from is miriam.downey@dcu.ie

That means nothing. In second semester you actually learn have to spoof emails. One of the guys last year got an email from a guy pretending to be a genuine lecturer. Any emails dealing with email and storage will come from ISS.
Check spelling, grammar, and any contact info. Usually there's a picture, or some contact info at the bottom. Check to see if the name is an actual name, as opposed to the bit of the email address before the @.
Spelling and grammar is usually the biggest tip off, and the likelihood is that you will never, ever receive an email about your email account, unless ISS have a problem with their servers, or you have specifically emailed somebody about your account.
