Tom Cruise Scientology video leaked - weird stuff!

Now, as an actor, I love the Cruiser. However, watching this video of him talking about Scientology and his belief systems, he just comes across as batsh!t crazy.

This interview was given as a pretext to some Scientology award and in it, he rambles on about stuff I genuinely don't understand, disses anti-depressants and will then just randomly burst into maniacal laughter. Weird stuff

By the end, when he actually accepts the award (part 4, if you manage to make it there), it just all looks like some awful parody!

How anyone can take this 'religion' seriously is truly beyond me. It's scary stuff, particularly their crusade against psychiatry.

As an actor he's feckín useless (except for maybe Magnolia) and who cares what the scientologists (or in fact any religious types) do or think or say or anything?

Or maybe you just always had Biggins on ignore? :p

Seriousily though, search AH for threads on Cruise and Scientology, lots of 'em where the videos and BBC's Panorama were discussed in depth.

Paging Biggins to After Hours, Biggins to After Hours please.

How does someone with 32 posts know who Biggins is?

Opps, that's right: you only have access to the thanks function after 10 posts, get a Sig after 25 and view Biggin's posts after 50 - my bad.

Ya got me and I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for you pesky kids - shakes fist.

I thought the title said Tom Clancy, that would have been awesome. Scientologists get their hands on a few nukes and threaten to blow us Washington and some secret bad ass military special forces team have to go shoot the place up.

Great movie star -- don't care what he gets up to in his private life. No more mental than any other religion.

You're right. Those scientologists believe in awful auld nonsense. Like an old virgin in a white frock and a beard having the power to literally transform bread and wine into the (again, literal) flesh and blood of a 2,000 year old zombie.

Yeah, scientology is waaaay out there.

The creator of Christianity isn't on record as saying the way to get rich is to start a religion, though.

While in simple terms it's no more insane than most religions, Scientology has a much darker side to it and glossing over their sinister nature is a mistake. Most wrongs attributed to most religions are based on the abuse of power. The wrongs that Scientology do are doctrine.

No, but then the Church pass around a couple of begging bowls every Sunday while holding on to a vast amount of wealth and property, secreted away in Swiss bank accounts. Look at the video in this news story and tell me that the Catholic Church are not revelling in their billions of ill-gotten wealth (and quite ironically as well, going by the content of the news article).

Evil doctrine? Like telling grieving families that their unbaptised baby was going to hell, and had to buried in an unmarked mass grave? Or telling a homosexual teenager that simply being who he naturally is itself a sin that will destin him to the fires of hell if he acts on it? Like telling abused and put-upon wifes that if they wanted to save their souls, they had better stay with their husbands, no matter what? Like telling uneducated sex-workers in Africa that AIDS is spread by condoms?

Listen, Scientology is mental, it's creepy, it's funny, it's sad and it's exploitative. But so is virtually every other organised religion -- you just need to take a step back to see it.

Irrelevant. Christianity wasn't started as a get rich quick scheme. Scientology was. As I pointed out, the abuses of the church are because of corruption. In Scientology it's part of their doctrine.

They're the same beliefs they had when they started off because they're too stubborn to move with the times and don't want to be seen as admitting to being wrong. And even then they occasionally make an effort to try and move on with civilisation. At the time, these were believed to be truths. Scientology was started on a lie and was known to be a lie.

And you're looking at everything on the same level, attributing the same history to them all. There's a whole level of context that you're not taking into account.

I wouldn't put it past him to get into politics eventually, when the film career has slowed down. He goes on like he's this all-powerful leader of the world type already.

It's the smugness and the "we know we're the only ones who see it as it really is" lark that annoys me. Oh and the fact that they despise psychiatric medicine, when they'd be ideal candidates for anti psychotic drugs themselves.

Yes. I want mental to the power of ten.

To the power of ten I say!
