Ah yeah but the storm and sferic and aurora chasers are with us all year long ( save where they head to the north pole or Tornado alley).

Snow Bunnies ignore weather all year long and appear en masse around now DEMANDING drifts in their back gardens in suburban Cork. Different specimens altogether, not like chasers at all. I like chasers. :D
Ok heres a great talk from joe b talking about the winter we are getting ice age style
    Its a few mins in

Why did you have to mention suburban Cork - not just Cork people looking for snow I can assure you!

Leahyl, you should know by now that the natural phenomenon that is the Cork Snow Shield forbids snow from falling anywhere south of this signpost in White's Cross

By the way, i do hope you see snow this year. Me too. I missed out on seeing even a flake in Dec 2010. As you can see in the below pics, there were literally rivers (or streamers) of snow showers bombarding the east coast as we sat there with sun block on :(

Amazing difference over such a relatively small area. Got 2 rounds of snow here in Nov 2010, both from the north and the east with a rinse repeat in December. Winter 2009/2010 was a different story altogether, very little snow in this neck of the woods while Clare seemed to do quite well.

Sure did DE. This is a pic from my back garden in early Jan 2010

As for Ian 'Tornado Chaser' Carruthers, how dies that guy sleep at night!! ;)

Well he has survived so far, guess he prays to the right weather gods. Or even actually read charts and plots survival courses around and prepares for weather phenomenon.

Going out to the Doctor yesterday I asked my status of Buddha if it would be mild, it remained stone faced. I asked if it would snow and it smiled ~ I kid you not.

Then, at the doctor's surgery I was greeted by the words "Ah! He arises and appears to many ..." I was then given both the flu and pneumonia injections as I was at risk.

I took that to mean at risk of having to shovel snow from my from yard to get out my jeep with its new summer tyres on its front. And I remember that I WANTED to fit Winter tyres .... it's all adding up.

People are sort of forgetting that we had epic cold more than epic snow since 1947... when we had epic both and that most recent records pertain to how cold it was in novemberrrrrrrr 2010.

Was it not Feb 1933 when we also had epic snow...and not forgetting the "munster blizzard" in April 1916 or 1917 which melted fast.

Nice to see the patterns emerging for the winter period, always interesting to read the views of the resident Pro-Ams

Just on reading the various publications my own feeling is we will see slightly cooler than average winter, certainly cooler than last year but without the extended periods of exceptional cold of the previous 2 winters. I'm going for the dominating feature to be periods of frosty murky weather, with a few short periods of snow and ice, rainfall totals to be lower than average. The monthly prediction competitions should be interesting

I have also decided that my favourite forecast phrase is, "and as the rain meets the colder air", delivered by Evelyn of course!

Can someone please tell why the CFS model is just used mainly to look for trends in the far reaches of FI and not used short to medium term? Is it not very reliable?..Sorry if this is a bit of a newbie question but I only hear of the CFS model being referred to during the winter months in the fantasy island tread:)

It is a seasonal model and isn't intended to be used for short term forecasts. It is run at a lower resolution than models like the GFS and ECMWF.

Had a quick look through the stations and I couldn't find it. I would expect it would be Mooney but nothing.
