I'm actually trying to find this out for a friend of mine, but I failed miserably.

What are the requirements for a taxi car in regards to its age, boot size etc.?

    Thanks in advance,
    sobanek

1963 regulations - are you serious? They probably include the provision of oats and water for the horse :D

    Fast Forward to the present.....

In a model report data, with (what it looks like) all "popular" cars, they've listed the 1998-2006 Volvo S80. I don't think the 1998 reg cars qualify for a taxi now... I'm confused

    It is confusing!!

It all depends when you friend got/will get the taxi licence. If a taxi licence was obtained several years ago a taxi driver can replace his car with one that is less than nine years old. For example, if you have 00 avensis and you have to change car it must be less than nine years old so the driver could but a late 03 or 04 Volvo S80, which the 1998-2006 model you mention would fall into.

However, if the licence was transferred to someone else after 7/6/10 it changes again.Have a read of this

There are also plans to stop transferability of licences and a cutoff age of 14 years for existing taxis next year. When the 14 years run out you will have to get a car under 9 years old and will only be able to keep it until its nine.

This is my understanding of it but I'm open to correction. Hope this helps.

Okay, so what I've been told by someone (which is when you get a new taxi licence you have to buy a maximum 2 year old car) is BS?

Info transferred, a thank you thumbs up given ;)

Don't confuse SPSV vehicle licenses ( the plate or roofsign number ) with the SPSV drivers license ( the bit of paper and ID you sat a test for )

Any vehicle license transferred to you or purchased by you is subject to being placed on a 3 year old or younger vehicle that conforms to the requirements as set out by the taxi regulator at the NTA.

Any queries should be directed to the NTA as they are the one who ultimately have the power to say yes or no

No not bs.Only licences issued before june'10 can be transferred and when it's transferred the car associated with the licence must be under 3.The new licence holder can then drive that car until its 9.

The best thing to do is ring them (018798300) to confirm them before any money is spent or you could end up making a costly mistake.
