You're tuning them in from the Astra Satellite rather than Saorview.

Ah ok, I have a DVB-T list that has all the Irish channels but I get a 'No Signal' message when I try to view them.

Did you copy someone else channel list ? Saorview Frequencies differ throughout the country.

The Irish channels are scrambled on the Astra satellite and require a subscription to Sky and a Sky box to receive them.

To receive them your a combo box you need to connect an aerial and tune them in on Saorview.

Thanks, did the Terrestrial Automatic Search and that got them. :)

Got this box yesterday (Thanks Tony, great service!).

Is there any simple way of just backing up the channel list to usb and using if necessary in the future on the same or another box? When I say simle, I mean without having to interfere in any way with the firmware?

I set up another brand of box also today for someone else and it can just back up its channel list to USB.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

    Hi folks,

I have a slight problem with my Arriva 250. Its working perfect but when I connect the box to my HD TV via HDMI cable it has sound but no picture. I thought at first it might have been the cable but I got a new cable and still the same problem exists. Its working perfect when I connect with the scart lead. I have a feeling its not the TV as I had another box connected to it some months ago and the HD worked fine. I haven't set up the saorview part yet just the uk fta channs. Thanks for your help, I hope I have posted in the right area.

Upgrade by USB, right click through options until you get to dumpfile. Click down to start. You now have a backup of your channel list.

Thanks STB, good idea - ILL try that

I saw your posts on DW. That firmware from that source that you put on your box is the issue. Put the clean original firmware on it and restore factory settings to cleanse it. That patched firmware that is out there at the moment is compiled by people who dont know what they are doing. For a start its compiled for another box!

    Handshaking its called.

Turn box off at back. Leave TV on. Turn on box.

And yes its a TV thing.

check the manual for the TV to see which HD mode is optimal, 720/1080 or whatever and set the ariva output to that

    Hi STB,

Why do you think I have the firmware on the box - why do you think its for another box?

Also I connected the box directly to the LNB and pulled in another 16 channels from another transponder - so now 24 in total.

But I note that there are only 9 transponders listed under Arabsat/Badr (and Im pulling in just from 2 transponders) whereas on Astra 19 there are 120 Transponders, Astra 2A 150 Transponders and Hotbird has 104 Transponders. Obviously you know a lot more than me, but dosent this mean that there are Transponders missing from Arabsat/Badr - surely there must be more than 9?

Would appreciate your thoughts or perhaps you would like to post on the DW site?

    Edit:

STB - Ive been very very silly - I was scanning in on Arabsat C Band instead of KU band - I now have 110 Transponders and 160 stations or so :)

    Regards

    Iba

    Hi Again,

    Been making a channel list.

After editing I click on File then Export and then change File as Type to .abs and then I click save and I get a pop-up-window saying Default Data Base and User Data Base. I tick the User Data Base and click ok. But then I get another pop-up-window stating 'Unrecognized bin file'

Why wont it save? What am I doing wrong?

Edit: Worked it out, Id deleted what was on the memory stick, shoudnt do that. You need to replace the .abs file on the memory stick with the new one you have made.

However, I renamed the favourite channel catergories - eg sports, movies but when uploaded to the box, it still just shows 'Favourite Group 1, 2 etc'

    Thanks

    Iba

do it via the box menu, load the file to the box and then in the box menu, you can change the favs into proper ones, the editor doesnt do it for some reason

Well if you need any help, please let me know.

Except for the renaming of the catergories, everything else has worked.

    Hi,

Thats where I got it from. Instructions were not the greatest though - but got it done now.

But what is the Eprom tool for, what does it do?

    Thanks

it showed up as mailware so must be an internect connector or something

    the editor is very slow

im goin to load it on the box and then save the list and it can be reloaded anytime

    What showed up as Malware?

What do you mean its very slow?

I downloaded from the Fergson website (the same one as Mickser posted).

1st I tuned in the channels on the STB. Then dumped them onto the memory stick. Then uploaded them into the Editor on the PC.

didnt have any Malware or slowness probelms.

Where exactly are you getting stuck; tell me what you have done?

    Regards

    Iba

Unbricking your box if you put another boxes firmware on it. You would use a null modem cable and a laptop. Dont worry about it. You wont need it.

Your other question. The DVBextreme patched firmware. Dont use it. It wrecks the boxes functionality. Its written for something else and kludged for the Ariva boxes. You will notice the remote control will become unresponsive.

This happens when you save as a dumpfile. It will remember the channel lists but not the names of the channel lists. Simple renaming using remote.

i downloaded the eprom thing and avast blocked it as malware lol so i left it

i found it quicker to set the channels via the box than the editor. and as bbc are dropping 4 interactive and changing frquencys this week changes will be needed

Thanks to Capt'n Midnight & STB. My hdmi problem was indeed the "handshake" phenomenon, and was easily rectified as the two members correctly suggested.

    Thanks Guys

The 250 has a remote control that can be programmed for tv. dvd etc it also has a channel name display, the 150 has a channel number display

    Hi Beezer,

The difference is the extra CAM slots on the Ariva 250 and what Tony said earlier
