    Hi All,

I have a 2007 Mercedes Vito 111cdi that has been seriously down in power for a while. Took it to a small garage and he plugged it in, He said the air flow meter was gone so bought a used one with a 3 month guarantee and fitted it. No difference. Took the van to a bigger garage and they said the same so bought a brand new one for €400 and still no better if anything it got worse. In the meantime we have :

checked egr, dropped exhaust to see if blocked, checked air cooler pipes, checked shaft in egr valve, got it plugged in twice and its saying air flow meter is wrong.

I am pulling my hair out at this stage. Any help really appreciated.

Do you have a fault code for the air flow meter fault?

Bring it to a main dealer, theyll probably have seen the same thing before.

Is it possible its a wire going to the airflow meter that has broken?

Thanks for you interest. I don't have it now but can get it tomorrow. The larger garage also checked the power supply in the loom and that was reading ok.

Thanks for your interest but as I have just said all the wiring has been fully checked and appears ok.

I know a mechanic in a main dealership and he said that the only problems that they get is the air flow meter and the ignitions. I have a new air flow meter and my ignition is fine.

Has it a map sensor??(manifold air pressure) common enough for the map and the maf to blame one another.
    Marty.

Air intake temp sensor gives problems in these and would cause similar sympthoms. Your best to get it plugged in at a main dealer as the Mercedes Star diagnostic will run diagnostics on wiring too and will find problems other diagnostic wont. It's not the ignition as if that goes it wont start !!

    Thanks. Will try that so.

It's a cheap enough part but a bit tricky to get too.

Mate had similar problem turned out to be a split in a pipe coming off the bottom of the turbo

Brought to main dealer today. It was the air flow meter after all. They just cleared all the faults and the power was restored straight away. My own guy said it was the same from the begining and I bought a secondhand unit with a 3 month guarantee , obviously that unit was also faulty and the 3 month period has also expired. Never buying secondhand parts again. For what ever reason when my own guy cleared the faults it did not have the same effect as in the main dealers.

Thanks to all for any advice here. Really appreciated.

Sounds like your air mass meter drift just had to be reset. Very common problem with vito's and sprinter's and can only be done with Mercedes star diagnostics software which is why your mechanic couldn't just "erase" the fault. Sorry i didn't see this earlier as i could've saved you a few bob.
