I removed DirectX from the computer because I kept getting an error that it wasn't installed correctly when trying to use a piece of camera software.

I then ran CCleaner and removed anything it found.

I downloaded DirectX9c, the correct version for Windows XP Pro SP.3, but it won't install. I get the following error message:

"An internal system error occurred. Please refer to DXError.log and Directx.Ing in your Windows folder to determine the problem."

I've no idea which folder this is. I tried installing from Safe Mode with Networking, but got the same error.

A quick Google told me to go to this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113

If you scroll down you'll see the following:

"To download and install the latest version of the DirectX End-User Runtime package, follow these steps:
    1. Visit the following Microsoft website:http://msdn.microsoft.com/directx/aa937788.aspx
    2. Follow the steps on the website to download and install DirectX."
But, this takes me to a page on developing games. Is this correct?

I've also downloaded the entire DirectX package from here> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 saved the files to a folder and run it as Administrator. I get the same error message.

Any ideas about how I could install the download I have?

    Thanks.

    D.

Look in the C:\Windows folder for the log files. See if they help. Also make sure you restarted before trying to reinstall. Also you could try THIS FixIT

    Nick,

    Getting nowhere, I'm afraid.

Upgraded Installer from 3.0 to 4.0.

Ran MSFT Fix It. No joy.

    Here's the DXError log file.......

Current DirectX may be a older version which does not have the version value in the registry.

I'd consider a system restore to an earlier state when DirectX was working. Then check it for updates and try to reinstall the camera software.
