My passport is an older one and non-biometric. It's quite ragged and the laminate is lifting on the ID page. I've had some questions over this on travels in the last year (Germany & UK). It's only 9 years old though. Is it possible to get a new passport early due to the damage?

You can renew at any time.

    Hi guys.

I currently have a temporary irish passport and I am living in Perth Australia.

I was due to travel to Bali for a few days then home to Ireland for good. After being refused travel to Bali due to a visa issue which only occurs on temp passport, I have rebooked my flight straight from Perth to home via Dubai (2 hour lay over)

Just wondering if any of you know will I run into any visa problems travelling back to Ireland on this passport? Or is there anything specific I need to have or organise?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

So long as it is in date you will have no issues.

Not strictly true. You really only can get confirmation on this in your nearest Consulate for the country you will be travelling through. There will be no problem landing in Dublin with a temporary passport but there nobody on here can tell you for definite that they won't have an issue in Dubai with it.

Call the local UAE consulate in Perth. Better safe than sorry.

    Rubbish!

To transit at Dubai you do not have to go thru immigration controls. You do not legally enter the UAE when transiting.

    Hi all,

Just a quick Passport Express question. I applied for passports for my two children through a post office in Belfast on August 30. On the website, it estimates an issue date of Sept 13. However, the status is still only at "registered". Given that this is now well beyond the 10 business day turnaround, how worried should I be? My family isn't travelling until Oct 11, so it's only an annoyance at this stage. Is this common for children? And is anyone else waiting on a passport?

Delays are common enough with Northern Ireland Passport Express. Due to stricter UK Guardianship laws and other reasons, more checks must be carried out. You should have them in plenty of time though.

Thanks. Sent off an email and got a quick response from the Passport Office. If I haven't got them by next week they will process them then

    Hello all :)

I am sending off to Berlin for my new passport as I live in Germany. I am hoping to travel to the U.S. in a year or 2. How can I check if my barometric's are stored somewhere to put on my new passport? Would I have to travel to Berlin to get finger printed ?

I have entered the U.S. before and I am on there system but I am not sure if they are linked. Dublin USA emigration took picture and finger print etc in 2005.

    Many thanks :)

Irish passports don't use fingerprints as their biometic.

The fingersprints taken by US immigration will be stored by them on their system.

    Hello again,

Just wondering if I need a passport when driving from Germany to Poland?

My passport was running out of date. I live in Germany but want to drive to Poland. Would Irish Driving licence do? Maybe a photo copy of passport with that? It says 4 to 6 weeks waiting for passport.

Identity card would be handy now hhhmmmm ?

    Thank you in advance.

There are no border controls between Germany and Poland so you should be ok.

Should be, its all the Schengen zone which has restriction free travel.

Nope, not if you're Irish. Entry to another Member State is conditional on being in possession of a valid passport. An Irish driving licence is not a valid travel document for an Irish citizen outside of the Common Travel Area.

That said, as both Germany and Poland are Schengen states it's unlikely you'll meet a border official on either side. Keep your fingers crossed.

But, because its the EU, you can stay in the country unconditionally, even long after your passport has expired. Afaik, a passport is only necessary for travel from Schengen to non Schengen countries.

Hi. Can anyone tell me what I can do about a delay in processing my passport. I sent off for my passport through ordinary post three months ago. I am due to travel next week. Numerous phone calls and I am still nowhere nearer receiving my passport. They have now said that they can't guarantee I will receive it on time. Would it help if I went in to the office. The rather unhelpful lady said it would not. I am only travelling to Scotland but I am travelling with Ryanair who insist on passports. PLEASE HELP

No one is allowed to remain in a country other than that which he is a national of unconditionally. In any case, the OP is not asking about remaining in a particular country but is specifically referring to moving from one EU member state to another. For an Irish national, this is only lawful, according to EU Directive 2004/38/EC, if in possession of a valid passport or else is otherwise able to corroborate by other means that he is an Irish national.

    Hi,

Just wondering if I need passports to travel from Belfast to Liverpool and then Liverpool to Dublin?

Im flying with Easyjet from Belfast to Liverpool and Ryanair from Liverpool to Dublin.

I rang up both Easyjet and Ryanair a few times but nobody there had a clue (baffling how they are on customer service with no ounce of English) so hoping someone here has experience from using them??

    Cheers

    Ryanair only accept passports.

    Fair enough.

Last minute holiday booked and my passport was due to expire 2 days before we come back home. Sent off passport for renewal through passport express (which advertises passport within 10 days). It was received Sept 21st and still states it is at the "received and registered stage of application". It also states that issue date is 4/10/12. My question is, hopefully it will be issued tomorrow but when is it posted? Due to fly out Monday, so can I collect passport instead - as worried it may be delayed in post. And when can I collect it, Friday? Have emailed dfa but no answer yet! Cutting fine I know....

I'm in the same boat - still at received & registered stage. Due to fly to US on the 11th. Passport tracking on the DFA website says issue date of 09/10/2012. Does anyone know how accurate this date is?

I'm in the same boat. Heading to France next Thursday 11th October. Realised on the 23rd September I had lost my passport. Sent away via passport express on September 24th. As of today, it still says 'Application has been received and registered' on the site. It does say issue date 8/10/12 so I'm still hopeful.

I rang the passport office yesterday, and after being on hold for about 40 minutes I finally got through to a woman who was very helpful. She said it was off in Balbriggan or Ballymun or wherever it is they print them and I should have it on time, but she took my number and noted on my file that I am flying out on the 11th to try speed it up - she said she would get her supervisor to call up and make sure they realised how soon I was flying.

Monday will be the 10th day. I'm thinking if it doesn't come, would it be worth going into the passport office on Tuesday? I have heard that if they are over the 10 days, if you go in, they can ring up and speed it up and get it sent to them in Molesworth Street for you to pick up maybe the next day? Anyone any ideas on this?

Fingers crossed, I'm going to see my friend who has moved away for the year for college and we've both been really looking forward to it!

Another one here. Mine has an issue date of October 5th but is still "received and registered". I'm flying Monday morning (or not, as the case may be). Rang them today, was on hold for about 50 minutes. The guy said he'd put a note with it but also seemed to be saying I couldn't collect it as the place in Balbriggan don't deal with the public......is this true? I was hoping if it is printed and good to go on Friday surely I can arrange to collect it rather than waiting for it in the post on Monday and probably having to book a later flight.

If it is posted Friday, would my local post office put it aside for me so I can collect it at the crack of dawn on Monday morning rather than waiting for the postman?

Balbriggan is not a public office hence the public are not dealt with there.

    Joy!
Emailed them again yesterday afternoon and I got a phone call back about half an hour later to say that it was approved and would be sent out today so I will have it on Monday. A day ahead of the 10 day guideline.

Thank you Cork Passport Office. Public Service depts get a lot of stick sometimes but credit where it's due!

Agreed. The Passport Office in Dublin was brilliant for me in getting my kids' passports sorted in time for our holiday.
