Dormer Knee Wall insulation options?

Hi All, we bought a dormer bungalow a few months ago, after breaking in behind knee wall in bedrooms I've found no insulation on back of knee walls, just foil backed plasterboard, studs are 100mm deep & 380mm centers approx. Don't have much to spend but need something to reduce the cold.

What would be the best way to insulate? Given the 100mm studs I can't but 300mm into them.Could I batten wood to each stud to increase the depth? Then staple a polythene sheet or therma foil stuff to the back of it all to get some air tightness?

Any help would be great. My OH believes insulation does not help keep house warmer & is a waste of money. Should also say that access through the knee walls is limited so I don't think I could get rigid board in there :)

    Hi
I think you mean dwarf walls. Insulate the vertical part of stud wall and also the floor area. hopefully sloped part of ceiling is insulated. Be careful not to block vents. Take time cutting the insulation. 125mm fibre glass would be fine. The doors you need to cut out insulate them also. Insulation manufacturers have good leaflets. Get some advice - Detail is very important.

This Insulation work is very important. It will save you energy and add to your overall comfort.

Let us know how you get on.

I looked at a dormer last week in Kinvara Co Galway because I intend to make my home a dormer. I was taken by the materials used and I spoke to the home owners and they were very pleased with the insulation and the warmth in the rooms. It is a system that I will be concidering for my home when the time comes. I can PM the material name etc if you wish.
