Just a heads up for anyone travelling to Riga with Ryanair.

The airport introduced a 'security fee' on departure as of Jan 1st 2012, which most airlines added into the price of their ticket. Ryanair did not, so anyone travelling out of Riga with Ryanair gets hit with a 7 euro (or 4.92 ls) fee at departure. This is per passenger, including children.

So, be sure to keep some lats/euro or have a credit card.

I just returned from Riga yesterday and was surprised to find out I had to wait in a 10 minute queue to pay 7 euro per person. You can also pay 4.92 LVL instead.

Anyone know why Ryanair simply doesn't add it to the ticket price like every other airline? Are they trying to force Riga Airport to get rid of their new "security fee"? It sounds like a dispute but no one I asked at the airport had any idea why Ryanair passengers are the only ones affected by this January 2012 fee.

I would think most airports charge various taxes which are included in the ticket price so why is Riga different?

FYI - Also arriving for the 22:45 flight to Dublin the currency exchange desk was closed in the main terminal but the one past security was open so you can change back any extra Lats to Euros.
