Water first or tea bag first?

I recently had a heated discussion with a long-time friend of mine. when making a good 'aul mug o' tae, what do you put in first - the teabag, or the water?

Personally I put the water in first, as I find the tea bag gets filled with air when I pour the water over the teabag and it draws better when I insert the teabag last.

    So boardsies .. opinions??

Heated discussion over a tea bag? Jesus.

Anyway tea bag first, it's simple first level thermodynamics.

What about both together or milk and water and then the tea bag.Your poll is completely useless.

Tea bag filled with air? What what whaaaaat?

You need to warm up the cup first. Add a little boiling water, swirl it around and empty it out. Put in the teabag, reheat the kettle again and then pour it it into the cup as it is at its hottest point. When pouring it, aim to hit the teabag. If you feel comfortable doing it, hold the kettle up high so the water hits the teabag at a higher velocity, therefore ravaging it of all its flavour. Remove the teabag after the length of time required by your taste, but never, ever squeeze the teabag. Once this is done, add sugar/honey/milk to taste.

Making a cup of tea is easy. Making a good cup of tea is art.

Above comment is taking the piss and I won't stand for it....
Both together gets you scalded fingers ( don't ask how I know)
Milk first or milk and water first makes crap tea as the milk cools the BOILING water and the tea doesn't taste right.... There I feel better now ...

    Reminds me of the joke:

Three vampires walk into a blood bar. The first two order 2 glasses of blood and the third one orders a mug of boiling water.
The bartender thinks that it’s kind of weird, but doesn’t say anything — he just gives them their drinks.
The next day, the three vampires walk into the bar and order the same thing, two glasses of blood and a mug of boiling water.
The bartender still thinks it’s weird but doesn’t say anything, he doesn’t want to be that vampire’s next victim.
But when it happened on the third day, the bartender couldn’t help but ask why. . . “Okay, I know that the three of you are vampires, so why do you two order glasses of blood but you always get a mug of boiling water?”
The third vampire pulls out a used tampon and says, “I like to make tea!”

Oh and I put the teabag in first!

My granny is really fussy about this - scalding the cup/teapot first is a necessity, then put the teabag(s) in and then quickly bring the water to the boil again and fill the cup/teapot when it's boiling. If I neglect to do the latter part, it'll invite a playful clip across the ear. Playful, I swear! (I'm thinking here of Butters' bullying grandmother - she's not like that) ;)

The teabag needs to go in first. Half the fun of making tay is trying to throw the teabag into the cup from a distance, while your waiting for the kettle to boil!

    Water
Teabag into a warm mug, then freshly boiled water, don't re-heat the water. Plenty of stirring of the teabag but no squeezing. Bag out, milk in then sugar.
    Sit down relax enjoy.
Any diversion from this simple method and I fly into a violent rage!!

Apologies if I invoke a violent rage, but I find if you put the sugar in with the tea bag first, the boiling water is guaranteed to dissolve all the sugar, so you're not left with the annoying really sweet last mouthful of tay.
