You either need to connect via an ethernet cable, from the back of the box to your modem or buy a wifi dongle to plug into the USB port. Then you need to go through the menu options until to come to "Entertainment", your internet options are there.

greg, if you have a router, connect the box to it with a lan cable. DHCP should be already set in your router so go to network settings in the box and ensure dhcp is set to on. reboot the box and it will find its settings automatically.

If you dont have a cable long enough then you need an alternative like lan plugs or wireless. If that is the case do a new posting asking how to set it up.

Apologies if this has already been asked but does anyone know if this box can do network streaming over upnp/dlna? I saw mention of it on one site but mostly in another language.

Installed the receiver a couple of days ago, everything looks and works great. :) my only small complaint is the remote control that needs to be alligned and struggle a little with it in order to communicate with the box, all in all pretty happy about it and for it's price!

do the boxes come with the latest firmware installed already and if not why not considering we have been waiting for the new stock of boxes for weeks now .
Surely the new stock of boxes should have the latest firmware installed as i want to buy a box that all the youtube, youporn weather etc works just by connecting an ethernet cable to the box from my router and not have to start updating firmware etc....i am trying to decide which site to buy from as the polish site is the cheapest by far but if there is an irish site that has the firmware already upgraded ( just to save me having to go to the trouble of doing it and possibly messing up the box or "bricking " the box ) then i would appreciate some advice as to the best value for money site to buy it .
i am definitely going to buy one of these boxes but which site , what do yee think ?

I don't sell boxes of any description so I dont know the answer to your first question.

Where you buy your box is up to you. The level of support and after support for problems is either dealing with Irish retailer or dealing with a Polish retailer. The clue is in the level of service you will receive from one versus the other I suppose is in the preloaded software and channel lists. The Irish sellers aim their support at Ireland.

Either way its supported here by owners of the box.

Sorry the question wasnt aimed at you i know you dont sell the boxes , i was just using your quote about the firmware and looking for advice off other s about which site they think is the best to buy from that might have the updated firmware already installed or does this have to be done regardless of where it is bought . Surely ferguson should have the latest firmware already installed seen as we are waiting for this batch of boxes from them for so long. why is the first thing we have to do to get the internet sites working properly is update the firmware leaving a possible chance of doing it wrong and " bricking " the box . All i want to do is connect the sat cable ,terrestrial cable and ethernet cable and have everything working without having to start updating firmware etc ...... My question is again.....Can i buy this box anywhere with the firmware already up to date .....hopefully the readers can give me advice

Yes. Satellite.ie pre-load with the latest firmware and channel list. You have probably seen "Tony" posting here in this thread, he owns satellite.ie. He helpfully also offers support here regardless of who you buy them off.

Youtube, Dailymotion, Vimeo(New), RSS feeds, Google Maps etc work.
(For those who had issues before I suggest you upgrade to this version. When connecting to the Internet, turn off and on DHCP and then hit the back button and say no, it forces your router to give it an address)

The 250 does not record in MPEG format. It records in TS which is a raw transport stream with a H264 video recording and an mpeg audio track.

You can convert it to an HQ MP4 or Flash FLV with free converter format factory for youtube etc.

Hmmm, I've been playing about [mostly unsuccessfully] with trying to convert TS recordings into avi format using 'Any Video Converter' [it's freeware] so that i can archive tv progs.
    I'm finding two things mostly;
1.There's sync issues after conversion, and, 2. the ts stream 'comes with' a voice-over soundtrack embedded, I could really live without it - especially when I've recorded a music prog!

Does anyone have any suggestions that'd get around these issues?

Hope this is the correct forum place for the question - apologies if it ain't!!
    Thanks - G

I think I remember using that program in the past, its bloatware imo. Try Format Factory or Xmedia recode, the best I have seen that is free.

If you are getting an additional audio stream (the voice over is no doubt audio description) you need to deselect the audio track in your player by selecting audio and changing it to audio 2.

Of course when you are encoding it, it would help to select only one (and correct one) audio stream and one video stream to encode, then you wont have these issues.

Thanks a mil STB! I'll try those other converters and come back [asap!]
Btw - yer right, the extra audio stream is audio description, i just couldn't rem what it's called!
Btw #2, have you used either of these to convert to avi?

What are you playing the AVI back on ? If you press the audio button on that device you will be able to select the audio without the description on those files you have already converted (you can have multiple audio streams for various languages etc).

Yes I have converted to other formats from TS files from various receivers no problem.

Yes I have converted to other formats from TS files from various receivers no problem.

I usually watch them on a usb [or sometimes burn a bunch of avi's onto a dvd for archiving] - so typically i'm using a dvd player to watch.

So [to shortcut this a wee bit!] which would you most recommend 'Format Factory' or 'Xmedia recode'?

Also meant to ask, have you had any sync issues with your recodes?

    Thanks for your help!

    Either. I prefer Format Factory.

If you want to re-sync AVI's already encoded, you can do it in a few secs (without re-encoding) with YAAI (free)

    Read this about re-syncing YAAI

This freebie converts most things very well.
    http://www.xmedia-recode.de/download.html

You will see there is usually at least two audio streams in TS files, one of which includes the audio description for visually impaired. Simply select the other audio stream.

    Hi

Ive been advised on another forum that I can use a previous channel list with the 1.20 firmware - perhaps someone else might confirm though

Did you see the seller's comment?
" The Ferguson 250 is out of stock at Ferguson until 1/10/2012, price will return to normal when stock is replenished" Talk about screwing the punter, he doesn't deserve support, I hope he still has that box in 20 years.
i suppose the only saving grace is he's telling you he's screwing you.:)
