    Hi all,

I bought a Mac in America this summer. I have the mini displayport - vga from my old mac (worked fine) but now the new Mac only gives out 60Hz (NTSC) so the projector in meeting rooms at work wont pick it up... I need to change this back to 50Hz (PAL) but that option isn't available in sys prefs... On my iMac I can select either 50/60Hz as that was Irish bought.

Is there anyway to enable PAL on a US bought Mac??

I've tried this and it doesn't work

    Thanks

    Try resetting your PRAM.

If that fails install SwitchRes X and generate a DDC block report as per this link. Generally play around with SwitchRes X and see what happens.

Here's some homework!! ( NOTE: Mac OS X natively reads EDID information (see /var/log/system.log or hold down Cmd-V on startup)

VGA input doesn't operate in PAL or NTSC as far as I know. That's for a TV signal.

Just make sure you're hitting detect displays when you have projector plugged in.

i need it in 50hz, its current at 60hz.. as far as i was conceded 50hz is pal 60hz is ntsc. tried detect displays but that does nothing.

when i plug it into my TV at home I get all the different resolute options but they are all at either 60/75/100Hz... my tv will show the display at 800x600@60hz but nothing else. So i know the adapter is working fine - its just software based.

Is the projector working ok? On the same input from another computer?

VGA standard is 640 x 480 @ 60 Hz. I'm guessing that the resolution your Mac is currently set to is not supported by the projector or you haven't switched to the VGA output in Display Preferences. You can't change a VGA output to 50 Hz, it's default is 60 Hz. PAL and NTSC are to do with composite/s-Video signals and are methods of carrying colour signals to a suitable display. They are not a product of their Frame Rate.

What make/model is the projector and what connection options are available to you for it ?

    Ken
