As in title, can you update the OS using someone else's install discs?

I have a late 2007 Macbook with Leopard 10.5.8 installed. Im looking to wipe the drive and install Snow Leopard that i can get off a friend that has a slightly newer macbook.

Will this work or are the licenses stuck to one computer? thanks in advance

It will work with retail discs but not with install discs that come with the machine. They will only work with that particular model Mac.

why would you want to? why don't you just update your macbook to SL 10.6.8 it's free and less hassle

Snow Leopard isn't a free download. You need an install disc.
