    Edit:
So I guess every game is going to be stretched to 16:9 then :(
Unless they're remastering every game, which I doubt.

Several times in that video it looks to me like the thumbstick doesn't return to neutral when he lets go of it, bit crap if that's true.

Yeah bit strange they're emulating 4:3 games with the 16:9 screen.

Someone has just unleashed Unboxing: The Video Game actually, although robbed the title from Tommy Wiseau's masterpiece. A little more elaborate than your usual unboxing video, but a celebration of opening boxes nonetheless.

Got it the weekend. It's very good. Uses the iPad really well. Wish it was longer though.

It's amazing how many people complain about original aspect ratios or screen 'bars', in games or films. It's become a pet peeve of mine in the last year or two. 16:9 doesn't automatically make everything look nicer. If that's the way it was made, then that is the way it should be played, but magically stretching the image only distorts everything. Widescreen may be standard, but absolutely nothing wrong with 4:3 or 2.35:1 (although have noticed Netflix can be particularly careless when it comes to aspect ratios).

That's pretty terrible they couldn't get the aspect ratio correct. I'm guessing as well it won't be a 1:1 pixel ratio either meaning either it employs a nasty blur filter or else you'll get banding when the screen moves like in terrible SNES emulators.

If the Neo Geo X Gold thingy is going to muck around with aspect, thumbsticks and the rest , why don't we just continue using our PSP's instead?
Then we have the whole sh1te thumbstick and blurry 16:9 screen without having to spend any more!

    YYYEESSSSS!

    KDIBx.jpg?1

This is literally my proudest moment of two decades of playing computer games. Six or seven years of heartbreak and failure finally draw to an end. I found a welcome ally in the Kid Icarus 3DS stand, and yes my score may be ****, but frankly I don't care.

    Now: hard mode :pac:

Looks like you pulled it back from the brink about two thirds of the way in there :)

Pretty sure every major downward spike is associated with a spinning wheel :pac:. The long ones really are torture. Can handle the short ones, but anything longer destroys the energy bar.

OT: my friend Sinead is setting up a Cat Cafe in Dublin, but not going very well since there's no venue. I'm just wondering if anyone was interested or might like to help out, would you consider joining the FB group?

The latest post mentioned organizing a coffee morning / maid cafe for Cat's Aid. If you didn't want to join the group but want to go to the coffee morning I could just post here at let you know.

Well it looks like I'm finally going to get my Apple I signed by Steve Wozniak.
He's coming over to London before xmas and we've arranged to meet up to get it signed and best of all have dinner :D:D
How does a busy man like the woz organise these things, secretary, assistant, email, letter? Nope, he picks up the phone and calls you for a chat.
This dude is super cool and we had a nice little chat about a few things including the Raspberry Pi, which he is a big fan of.

    Also, I came a disappointing 6th in a iPhoneography exhibition/competition here in France :(

WTF did Chrono Trigger just rick-roll me ?

Got to play this last night for a bit, got to the piece where you meet Robo and I do believe he rick-rolled me. Should have named him Arse as a punishment.

Pretty close, eh? Well anyway, the dudes over at Original Sound Version were so intrigued by this that they sought out Chrono Trigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda to ask if he'd been inspired by the Rick Astley song. Here's what they found out yesterday:

OSV: Mitsuda-san, please bear with me, as this is hard to explain even in English! There has been an Internet phenomenon in the United States called a "Rick Roll" where people send the following video to one another: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0
This is a big Internet prank or joke, and some game music fans have noticed how the background melody sounds similar to "Robo's Theme" from Chrono Trigger, calling "Robo's Theme" the first "Rick Roll." It's this big Internet joke. I was hoping you could comment about this, and about Rick Astley's song? Do you think the video is funny?

Mitsuda: It certainly is the first time I've seen this. I'm surprised! That's the first time I've heard of Rick Astley, and it's interesting that such a phenomenon is happening in a different country. Thank you for your time!
So that's that. Apparently not. And he probably thinks we're crazy. Still, great to know you now have lyrics to sing along with Robo's theme when you play through Chrono Trigger again on DS.

Oh Earthbound has more than similar music. Hip Tanaka found out he could use samples on the SNES and went bananas with sampling. He sampled loads of Beatles music and instruments and used them in the songs as well as a few others like Chuck Berry. It's the reason that it hasn't got a re-release in the West because Nintendo are afraid of the law suits.

Mitsuda and Uematsu are massive Prog rock fans and a lot of their stuff is influenced, some more so than others, by bands like Pink Floyd, Yes and Rush.

Sonic 1 aswell seems to be a huge offender aswell, but that's gotten re-released many times since it came out. I love that soundtrack though

Well most games like that actually just ape the music from pop songs and they sound a bit different. The differrence between that and Earthbound is that it actually uses full recorded samples of the actual songs. If you remember the court cases over smapling in the 90's and how much of a dick the Beatles and their copyright holders can be about things like that then it's a whole different ball game or legal crap.
