Just to go ahead and piss on everyone's parade, 9 points from 5 matches, we got 10 from the corresponding fixtures last season. :pac:

You don't act like you support the team.
The amount of bollox one liners with smileys you post in the threads, we all know youre just trying to get noticed because you have no clue what a good team is.

Happy with the result, delighted with the performance overall. We look and feel physically and mentally strong. Thought Ramsey and Kos were excellent, wud have been unimaginable at the start of last season to think we'd 3 quality centre backs, Mert was quality again today. Gerv was poor Diaby lazy at times but other than that everyone played really well.

If Jenkinson can sort out his distribution from the back he could grow into a quality right back.

More I see this team the more confident I get the drought is ending.

Agreed, could also so Ramsey replacing Diaby in the centre quite soon with Walcott or Ox taking the wide positions off him and Gerv.

All the tools are there to make a serious go for the title. Most of our players are so comfortable on the ball. Diaby Caz and Arteta work really well together. Jenk and Mert have improved significantly. Gerv was frustrating today and had that chance near the end fallen for nearly anyone else we might have won today.

Overall a decent result against one of the best teams. Bring on Chelsea

Ow, my feelings. You're right though, we'll win the league and probably the FA cup. 9 points from 15 is better than 12 because we're unbeaten, sure.

End of last season I'd have sold Ramsey seems to have got a lot of confidence from Olympics and Cazorla coming in has lifted the creative pressure off him. He has done really well off the bench and backed that up today. Hopefully we will see I'm kick on now.

At this point this season compared to last are you seriously telling me you don't have more optimism for success. We have stoke, city and pool away out of the way and are sitting nicely in the leading pack

why is gerv still on the pitch. he's had a very poor game today

    +1

He was absolutely dreadful  The amount of dilly-dallying on the ball which allowed City to pour back in numbers was irritating and the chance he skied well wide at the end nearly made me pull lumps of hair out.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt for a long time but i think we have the love-child of Wiltord and Eboue. Very indecisive. His feet and his head are acting in spite of each other.

Is Wenger hell bent on destroying Giroud's confidence at this stage like he did with Chamakh? Giroud is a big powerful man who you need up against big men such as Kompany and he left him on the bench. When he brought him on it was at the expense of Podolski who wasn't too bad and was alot better than our friend Gervinho.

Walcott's body language is completely off at the moment. In the past he looked enthusiastic before he ran himself into a dead end. Now he wont even run fullstop. His Arsenal days are numbered I think.

Jack Wilshere cant come back soon enough i think.

Overall it was a good result and credit where due despite conceding a very soft goal against a very defensive side relatively out of nothing i felt we done considerably well to come back.

Kocielny is brilliant and i hope the Koc/Verm partnership is restored soon. Mert is an accident waiting to happen but Bould is getting the best out of him. Jenkinson done well today i felt and launched continuous attacks but Gibbs seemed wary (perhaps understandably) of committing himself too far forward. Cant understand why Wenger is persisting with Mannone. He lived a charmed life against Liverpool. We need a more experienced back up. He isnt good enough. Good reflex saves but when he has to command his area he is found badly wanting.

What is your measure of success? I doubt we'll finish higher than we did last season but I would hope we'll be closer to the top points-wise than last season and so far we've less points than from the same fixtures last season. Being unbeaten is meaningless as far as I'm concerned, I'd take 12 points from the first 5 matches before the 9 we have. Some of the "reasons for optimism" are meaningless fluff.

If we want we should win a cup this year and if we get luck with the draw and timings of injuries we could have a run at the CL. I'm hopeful but were not the bee's knees yet.

There is always the capacity to challenge with this team but how long can we sustain the challenge for is the big question. I would hope there is a different character in the dressing room these days then the days of Gallas Toure and Adebayor but that all said i admire the way both Kocielny and Chesney have really pushed on since the Carling Cup disaster of 2011

Things were very tough on Gervinho, especially in the 2nd half where he often had 3 City players tracking him back. I wouldn't be so scathing on him, despite his lack of composure for the 2 clear cut efforts he had.

Yes it's a delight to have Koscielny back, and fabulous to see he wasn't at all rusty despite not playing this season.

Wenger : we missed a few chances but that performance shows we are a strong team and rock solid overall.

Did you watch the game today?

Gervinho has improved vastly this season has 3 goals and can provide us something different when need and he ran himself into the ground granted he wasted possession sometimes but he never stopped trying.

He subbed Podolski off because he was looking tired and wasnt the the Podolski weve seen in previous games, as for Giroud Wenger is renowned for easing new players into the team and giving them the time to adapt, destroy his confidence give over look how long it took Henry to settle Wenger has already stated he has lot of belief in Giroud plus he played well when he came on.

    Walcott agreed.

Wilshere agreed cant wait to see him back but what i love is he will improve us but were not crying out for him like last year.

A very defensive side? With Yaya Toure, Silva, Aguero etc I wouldnt class them as a very defensive side there an attacking team with a very well organised discpline and defence.

Mert is an accident waiting to happen he won man of the match ffs. Mannone has done well so far and suprised quite a few. See today as two point lost its a game we could have won but still happy with the draw last season we were miles behind City, bring on Chlesea at the Emirates.

It doesnt matter if he has loads of time on the ball or none, he always seem to snatch a wasted ball from the jaws of a goal scoring opportunity

He's not got the first touch required to be a forward, we will have to wait to see if he will be better this season.

It's hard not to admire arsenal. Every season they seem to lose some of their best players and are tipped to drop away into mid table, and every season they find a way to improve players and buy players that suit their style of play and still stay competitive. They might not win the league but they will be up there at the top until the end. Great result again btw

Which bit exactly? That we won't win the league or that 12 points including a loss would be better than 9 with mainly draws?

Gerv is a funny one. He clearly has come on leaps and bounds since last season, but still lacks the clinical final touch or shot.
Thought he was one of our better players up until his heavy touch inside the City box after Ramseys through ball.
Once he starts to get a bit more composed and thinks clearer when on the ball we may well be onto a winner with him on our side as he does find himself in a lot of the better attacking positions.

We had conceded no less than 14 goals at this point last season and looked very shakey in the two games we even managed to win.

I would also rather have 12 points instead of 9 but being unbeaten is far from meaningless, there's no way you or anyone else felt more confident about the team this time last season than they do now.

Looking solid against the champions, being defensively astute(the best defense in the league so far if I'm not mistaken), being hard to break down, being hard to beat, dominating posession in midfield....which of these reasons for optimism are meaningless fluff exactly?

It's a bit premature to be getting ahead of ourselves but it's downright silly to say we don't look better than we did this time last year.

If how we felt last season after 5 matches is the benchmark then we'd all have jizz dripping down our legs. The overreaction to the freak 8-2 and a couple of poor pieces of luck are mirrored beautifully by the reactions this season.

As above. As for the unbeaten thing, it would've been an achievement to lose either of the first two matches and two points was a poor return and at times we looked to be settling.

Generally our defensive solidity has been against teams not looking to attack. At 1-0 City's breaks were half-hearted at best. Dominating possession, when has that ever been an issue for Arsenal?
The whole unbeaten thing means nothing unless it's a nice aside having won the league. Dominating possession means nothing, we would have won quite a few more titles if it did.
It's a bit premature to be getting ahead of ourselves but it's downright silly to say we don't look better than we did this time last year.
    Who said that?

Here's the corresponding fixtures from last year subbing Blackburn for Southampton. In my opinion it's setting the bar a little low to compare to the start of last season (against different teams) in a period when we were ****ed with injuries and I think played something like 9 different players across the back 4.

    Season|Played|W|D|L|F|A|GD|Pts.
    2011-12|5|3|1|1|12|5|+7|10
    2012-13|5|2|3|0|9|2|+7|9
