    Hi,
I'm looking to buy a 2nd hand car-
Mainly to and from work- 15km, mainly in traffic (from just past Claregalway to gawlay city)
weekends- into town with family- 2 kids.
Maybe trips down the country, but we have a Volvo S40 so might use that.

    What I'm looking for:
    • 2nd 1/2 2008 or 2009 (because lower tax if low emissions0
    • low tax
    • high mpg
    • Max budget €12,000 preferably cheaper.
    • Diesel or petrol-open to either

At the moment these are some I'm looking at but am open to anything really:
    • Kia Cee'd (or Rio maybe)
    • Ford Focus (or fiesta maybe)
    • VW Golf or Golf Plus
    • Hyundai i30
    • Peugeot 208

I'm going to check them out properly- check exact model versions, tax, mpg, costs and take for test drive. They will buy once my mind is made up.

    Any advice or tips?
Lastly what are the best sites for reveiws for 2nd hand cars?
    Thanks,
    Pa.

Motor tax is not a large percentage in the overall cost of car ownership, I would not let it become a major infuence in my decision to buy a car. In fact the higher the tax the cheaper the car will cost to buy.

A Yaris 1.4 D4D is about the most economic vehicle you can get in this country. You should be able to get a 2008 model for around the €8k mark that hasn't had the wheels driven off it.

The 1.4 TDI Skoda Fabia is also a real miser on fuel and a good choice.
