Well ladies, i got my dress, after 5 weeks of waiting!
Couldn't believe how similar it is to the picture i sent, prob about 98% accurate.
I will have to get it taken in a bit and i think i might get an underskirt added. There is no doubt it is well worth it. Obviously the quality is not the same (it isn't as heavy as the original). However the material used is beautiful
I am very pleased with it. I am just hoping there is someone out there who will be able to take it in and add some extra netting underneath.

Ohhh, could you post a pic please???, did you take measurements yourself, or did you get them professionally done?

That's fantastic! That's just how I felt about mine too. It's not quite as nice but still beautiful and perfect for the day :)

Mine has been altered and I'm going to collect it this week which I'm really excited about. \0/ I'd recommend the tailor but it's in New Zealand so probably not much use to you :o

I'm sure you'll find someone to do the alterations easily enough. A friend recommended the lady I've gone to. She juts does them from her own home and she had no problem altering mine.

Has anyone here used RK Bridal - I have ordered my BM dresses from them, as I have seen mostly good reviews about them! Not due to be delivered for another 2 months though - kinda nervous but seriously couldn't justify paying over €250 each for them here, and €380 for all 3 online is too good to resist!

OK ladies I got my dresses from RK...and I am so delighted with them, they are absolutely stunning and no lie, I can't see a single difference between them and the ones that cost double in the shop!

    Would highly recommend them! :)

If there was a difference I'd be pretty angry since they are genuine dresses, not copies.

Glad it worked out for you. I've ordered mine from Jay's. Can't wait to get them.

I had heard before that most of these discount sites use different material (cheaper) so to be honest, I wasn't expecting them to turn out as great as they did :)

ps. Be aware of the charge for customs also - I got charged €70 on arrival! (that was for 3 dresses)

Just to re-awaken this with an update.

I found my actual wedding dress in a dressmaker at an affordable price so have ordered that. But decided to go down the route of DHGate for the BM dresses.
After 4 weeks of waiting for my BM dresses I collected them from the post office today and nervously brought them home to open them.

And wow. The dresses are lined, boned, identical to the one I wanted and look great. One looks a little big but I think that is because my BM may have over estimated her measurements for safety. They are also barely creased.

I used the seller recommended by watna and I am very pleased.

    Thanks Watna.

i bought my wedding dress from DH gate, when it came (about a month or two later) it look identical to the one i wanted, i tried it on and it fit like a glove, after the millions of measurements they asked for every inch of it clinged perfectly to me. :D

the only thing i was unhappy about was i thought the lace was scratchy and cheap feeling, but i said id put up with it considering it only cost €100 and looked gorgeous,

recently i finally went into a bridal shop for a browse at flowergirl dresses and when i felt the lace on a bridal dress there it felt exactly the same as the dress i got and this was a dress that cost €1500, it was then i realised i was thinking of a different material :o

so to be fair i am now over the moon i got my perfect dress at a cost i won't cry at if the dress gets destroyed on the day (likely with me :D)

Another DHgate bride here :) I went down that route as I fell in love with a Justin Alexander dress online, but found out it had been discontinued, and the odds of finding it secondhand were minute as it was an unusual style. I didn't have particularly high expectations, but thought that for €100 it was worth the gamble. When I opened the bag I was gobsmacked, it was perfect! Like the others, it's properly boned and looks identical to the real dress. I'll need to buy an underskirt but you can get those on eBay for a tenner.

That said, I know of people who have had bad experiences ordering from China, so you really need to do your homework with the sellers. Even then it's a matter of pot luck so be warned!

So glad it worked out ladies - it is a gamble but it can pay off!

I thought the lace on mine was a bit scratchy too but like you, thought meh it was only $300. I also looked a the dress in the shop and the lace has the same feel - so I was very pleased!

My wedding is in less than three months now and I can't wait to wear my dress :D I am also likely to destroy it on the day. I usually don't wear white because I'm so messy. Another good thing about not paying a huge amount for the dress is that I don't feel the need to sell it on afterwards. It can happily sit in my wardrobe and hopefully one day we'll have kids you can use it for dress-up!

For those of you that bought online... did you go around dress shops to get an idea for the style you wanted by trying them on or did you just buy a style you liked online?

Does anybody know if any of those websites would be willing to make a dress on the basis of the picture provided? I'm dying for one high street shop dress but it's not in stock anymore and nowhere to be found in general....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 686 ✭✭✭kittex

Yep, they will work from a picture.

I found a dress on DH gate that I am actually in love with!! Would I be mad to buy it so soon for a 2014 wedding?

I bought one there and it was a disaster from start to finish, I would say choose your seller wisely and research it but I did that and still got screwed over. The real dress will come down in price long before 2014, you can afford to wait a while and see if it does before ordering a fake online.

I got a PM from a gal on here who had no hassle at all. I don't even know what it's a replica of... I just love it :D

Ive just ordered mine from a seller on Etsy. They have an actual website too. They specialise in original vintage and have started doing their own vintage inspired new dresses too. They are called Daughters of Simone. Good experience so far, very helpful and friendly. Its nerve wracking buying a dress youve not tried on. But I've treid on dresses that are a similar shape/cut so I know it will suit me shape wise.

I totally fell in love with it. Just remember to add on any customs and tax!

Watna, I can't wait to hear how you get on, I spotted my dress on DHgate too, 96% accuracy apparently, I read feedback elsewhere that said the beading was a let-down as the beads were stuck on & not stitched on...
The dress I have in mind is €1,250 here or €112 from DHgate, definately worth risking it!!

i know someone who ordered from this website and when the dress came it was only half finished and the material was awful cost nearly 600 euro to get it sorted here , i wouldnt advise to order from there.

DHgate is like eBay, so it totally depends on the seller. I ordered mine from there and it was perfect.
