Delighted to see that Cycling Ireland have confirmed Ronan Mc Laughlin as the final Irish rider to join Roche and Martin on the start line in Valkenburg next Sunday. He's been really aggresive all week in the TOB and this end of season selection is a real boost for him,and just might make up for him missing out on the ras stage win in to his home county earlier in the year.A coincidence here also,as he becomes the second rider from Muff in Donegal to have a rider on the Irish team for the Worlds, joining Matthew Doyle who was already selected for the Junior R/R.Great work by various new clubs in that part of the country producing riders.Good luck to all the team this week and hopefully Ryan Mullen can kick start things with a strong showing in the Jun TT tomorrow morning.

I'm delighted to see Ronan McLaughlin selected. He'll ride his heart out for the green jersey.

I have no doubt he will ride himself to a standstill! It's a big team and a big backup team to ensure the riders have everything they need. Also, we had some of the TT'ers out on a training camp on the circuit a few weeks ago. hopefully it will pay off with good performances. I can honestly say we have done as much as we can to support them and its over to them. Next year if we can take it a step further forward it will be great. I think if we can get a junior female to the line in the next few years it will be a really positive step.

Mullen 9th in the Junior TT.

He will be disappointed with that. Looks like he went out a bit hard and faded in the last km's

Women's TT tomorrow - just a reminder to apply spoiler rules (ie use spoiler tags if posting same day race information in any thread, including this one). If you want to discuss a race without using spoiler tags, start a race-specific thread

Do not start any new thread commenting on the performance of any rider(s) (even if an Irish rider does well). Stick with race specific threads or this one (with spoiler tags) until the following day

    Thanks

Does anyone know the approx finishing time for the big one on Sunday? What, with it being All Ireland Final day on Sunday I'd like to watch both but imagine the road race is going to finish some time after 3:30, which is the time the GAA kicks off....

would Hutchinson have an outside chance of a top 10 finish in the ITT today? He broke the 25 mile record a few weeks back so his form must be decent but would the climbs rule him out of contention?

The Elite Men's Individual Time Trial is on this afternoon (Mods, feel free to move this to a separate stage-specific thread if it is needed).

Tony Martin is the defending champion.
Wiggo and Spartacus who were 2nd and 3rd respectively last year are not competing this year, but Bertie is!

    Stage profile:

Anyone know where I can view the full final classification? All I know now is that my bets (Bert on the nose, Chavanel e/w) continued my current bad streak.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,365 ✭✭✭Lusk Doyle

    Martin 1st, Phinney 2nd @ 5 secs, Kiryienka in 3rd @ 1.44. Martin caught and passed Contador at 30kms

Taylor Phinney, always the bridesmaid, eh? 4th in both Olympic events, and now no WC jersey. Poor bastard.

It seems he rode the last 1km in about 55 seconds. That's about 65kph.

What a performance from Tony Martin over the final 3-4km. Superhuman effort.

Poor Taylor Phinney was heartbroken. Surely he'll have a few World titles to his name in the coming decade.

What did we say about spoiler tags? I've just had to add them to two posts. Final warning.

Yeah, I was doing some quick maths coming to the 1km to go mark and reckoned he'd be short and beaten into second by 6-8seconds at the likely rate he was going to manage, shows how bad such judgements can be. He absolutely smoked the last k - I bet his DS was roaring in his ears. 65kmph for nearly a minute.........wow!

My bad, thought this was a TT specific thread when I posted.

Predictions for the road race anyone? Thinking of a punt. I thought Valverde might be a good bet but after seeing what competing for Vuelta GC did to Contadors legs today I'm having second thoughts. Gilbert looks good but at 11/4 he's not great value. I don't think the course will suit Boonen, though he is on form. Nibali at 20/1 might be worth an each way bet?

Has he raced much since the TdF? I haven't heard him mentioned in any race results. He definitely should be there or there abouts.
