VW golf 2.0 TDI 2009 - power loss once only

    Folks just a quick question.

I bought a VW Golf 2009 2.0 TDI about 10 months ago. Got a full service done on it 3 months ago and it’s been running perfectly up to yesterday. I left work started the car but it seemed 'weak' and cut out twice just after I started it (possible limp mode). The third time I started it was as normal and I haven’t had the issue since. I did a good bit of driving last night to make sure.

My question is - the car is out of warranty in 2 months do people think this is just an isolated incident (possibly dirty diesel) considering it only happened once and seems grand since or something more serious. I bought the car down the country so it’s a bit of a trek to bring it back to the garage I bought it and hard to get time off work. Am I right to wait a few weeks and see if it happens again and if so bring it back to the garage I bought it in before its out of warranty or should I bite the bullet and bring it down regardless????

Did any warning lights appear on the dashboard when the issue occured? It might be worth bringing it to a local indy garage that has diagnostic equipment and see if they can read any fault codes from it. I'd rather spend a few quid on a diagnostic that points to an issue you can get fixed under warranty than wait until it happens again outside of warranty where you have to foot the bill for putting it right.

No warning lights came on the car just cut out right after i started it twice. Good point about the diagnostics becuase at least then i can be sure before trekking down the country and taking leave from work to be told there's nothing wrong with the car.

    Cheers for the reply

Any chance you tried to give it a bit too much "Wellie" when it was still cold??

If I'm correct,,the TDi's like to be warmed up before they get a bit of stick.

    Just a suggestion.

Get it scanned by Vagcom and see what, if any, faults show. That is your best starting point
