The 2FM star has been at the helm for three seasons already.
But he admits it’s only now that he feels at home, thanks to the nod from Gaybo and Pat on the 50th anniversary of the legendary show.
Tubs, who turns 40 this year, revealed: “Hosting the 50th, it actually felt like a handover having Gay and Pat there on the show. So it only now feels as if I’m getting my feet under the table. I’ve had to earn my stripes.”

With new LLS season starting on Friday will Gay's and Pat's approval help him this year? He has been on TV for at least ten years so this sounds hollow to me. It's almost as if he is trying to make excuses for his poor performances.

Isn't it a bit sad that a 39 year old man with fifteen years broadcasting experience is looking for a nod from two older men in order to feel accepted on the LLS. You need to have confidence in yourself to carry out proper, intense interviews but also to have the ability to be lighthearted and frivolous.

You can look at it in another way, I suppose, and question whether or not this is a load of phonus balonus and is tubridy trying to insist that he is still a novice in the LL stakes and that this somehow explains everything(like Juliette Binoche or Jack Black) away.

It might be more in his line to read the critics, instead of listening to the sycophants inside RTE.

Good point Skid. I have also previously noted how most of his comments are obvious propaganda, he wants to create an impression that he is new to the job + he also likes to align himself with Gay Byrne, because he thinks it will go down well with the LL audience.

Tubridy:"What’s most important is not the job", Gay Byrne would never have uttered this line. The LLS should be taken off him and given to someone who is eager and anxious to do well. Gay Byrne had a massive input into choosing guests and every other factor of the programme, one gets the impression that tubs is happy just to put down time.

Gaybo and Pat couldn't very well have said that Tubs is dire on the 50th anniversary program, so the so-called nod means very little. Gay was so much better than tubs on the 50th anniversary program, even at seventy-odd, that he really showed him up. I dunno if I could sit and watch another interview like the Mia Farrow one, it was like a slow-motion car-crash

Article from today's Indo, Graham Norton is anxious to host the Late Late Show. Could be the end of the road for tubbers. Wouldn't it be ironic if Norton replaced tubbers after tubbers tried to poach Graham's job on BBC radio. I think Graham would make a brilliant host and would have the gravitas to create a rapport with any personality he interviews. Even if RTE were to pay him two million euro it would be worth it. The LLS is an important programme and he could lift the nation in the same way Gay Byrne did. I would love to see tubs done down on this. Can you imagine how humiliating it would be for him if he was sacked from the Late Late?

Having read the article, I presume by "anxious" you mean Norton may possibly someday consider it, but only when he's old and retired from the BBC?

For the record Tubridy filled in for Norton as cover for his vacation. He wasn't trying to poach anything but don't let facts get in the way of your bitter and boring rambling.
