How to remove tape adhesive from bodywork

After a window breakage, a relative taped up the window until a replacement was sought. However, following fitting of the new window, the remains of the tape adhesive are now left on the bodywork. I myself wasnt there so I am not sure what tape was used but the adhesive looks like possibly duct tape or a parcel tape of some kind.

Would tar remover do the job or what would be the best way to remove it without damaging the paint?

A lot of tar removers are branded as 'Tar and Glue Remover', so if you have a tar remover, it should do the job.

WD40 dissolves that stuff too. Just the area a quick wash afterwards.

This is water. Inspiring speech by David Foster Wallace https://youtu.be/DCbGM4mqEVw?si=GS5uDvegp6Er1EOG

White spirit should do that job for you,I used it before to get masking tape off glass and it worked, rub it into the tape with one of those rough backed sponges.

Do not use a rough backed sponge on your paintwork - it will leave light scratches in the lacquer and will dull the appearance of the paint.

OP; all of the above methods will most likely work - just be sure to give the car a good wash afterwards to ensure all residue, from the removal product, has been properly cleared away.

I find Holt's tar remover gel great for that kind of stuff. Spray on the affected area, leave for a min and wipe with a soft cloth. Repeat if needed. Heating with a hair dryer or hot air gun will also help soften it up
