To answer myself, I did a quick count on Google Earth, and there are approximately 343 houses and 32 apartments in Wheaton Hall, plus more like shops and medical practice etc - I suppose we can round it to 400.

If one cabinet can only serve 200 connections, Wheaton Hall should have two cabinets just for itself. So is that cabinet outside Wheaton Hall actually for Wheaton Hall, or could it be to serve Beaubec across the road? Or are there other cabinets inside Wheaton Hall? Questions questions... :(

if that cabinet is for wheaton hall, then those in forrest view, barley cove etc, are a long way from that cab! i would guess that they would be at least 1km from the cabinet.

Yes, but still better than the 5 km from Patrick Street :)

These are the other two cabinets that I know of within Wheaton Hall - but they both look like ESB cabinets, are they not? Are there any more, and any Eircom ones?

There's a second platform with a cover on it beside this cab so they are probably going to add a second one at some stage?

it must be fiber so, or are they putting in loads of different cabs?

what colour are the cables they are putting in? what part of grange rath are they working in?

so is Grange Rath getting FTTH?

Not seen the color of the wires. Not the type of person to walk up to the guys digging everything up and ask. :P

They seemed to put in those green boxes at both entrances though and one at the end of the Boulevard (I think), and they've dug up channels at the top of Park Close and the Boulavard, as well as starting to dig up the green in front of the houses at the main entrance. They seem to be digging lines up from the boxes to houses (and not doing a great job filling them back in either :P).

yes one of my lines with vodafone was down for a few hours yesterday, and is acting a bit unstable overall.

its a little strange that my line would would be stable on eircom for years and then with a move to vodafone, suddenly become unstable..

I was talking to someone in Eircom too and they said the Dublin Road area would be live at the end of September. Moral of the story when it comes to talking to Eircom.......believe it when you see it!!!

You're doing well with 4mB on Voda - I can't get anything higher than 1.85 at best!

There was an article in the Drogheda Independent this week saying that Drogheda would be the first town in Ireland to get fiberoptic broadband and it would be launched December 2012!

Is this what all the work is for around the town lately? Have noticed a lot of Eircom workers around, particularly this past week.
