Di Matteo saying he wont let Essien join Arsenal. Imagine not letting one of your players join your rivals! All the cool clubs are doing it. What do you mean its just Arsenal...

Bring back AVB! He let us have Benny (and helped us to finish above them in the league)

I don't know how comfortable i'd be with Essien "cumming" Arsenal.

    sounds painful to be honest.

In all fairness that is just text speak common among young people nowadays. For us to be pedantic about the use of language by uneducated footballers simply exemplifies the frustration on the lack of activity by the club so far. Hopefully some news would materialise in the next 2 hours or thereabouts :o

Frustration "from" the lack of activity.

What time last year did it go mental? Was it early or late?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,713 ✭✭✭keano_afc

Well, its looking like despite the early promise its going to be another poor summer transfer window. Let the battle for 4th commence.

As far as I can remember Arteta was signed late the rest were signed early in the day.

At least Chelsea are getting trashed at the minute. Any chance of signing Falcao? :pac:

Haz if you think Ivan, Stan and Arsene would spend 50m on a player (falcao's price) then sure!

Thats what I was going to suggest. Throw in a late bid and see what happens :D

We would have to sell the majority of our first team to balance the books first :p

So what happens to the transfer budget we were supposedly allocated at the start of the window? Considering we've pretty much made a profit for three summers in a row we should have (conservatively speaking) around 75M to spend assuming it rolls over to the next year (which it probably doesn't), why aren't we spending it? Why would Wenger be at all concerned with the financial end of the club? Shouldn't his main priority be to spend whatever is given to him and let the board deal with money issues? Isn't the money given to him money that is already accounted for as spent? Why does he just give it back every summer?

I'm sure it's a lot more complex than that but it really is frustrating watching QPR and Spurs making way more progress than us. I know we've signed players but dumping our CDM and star striker and replacing them with a) nothing and b) a risky at best Ligue 1 man is not good enough.

Thats the improved offer! Our first bid would be closer to €5m :pac:

Wage has to be included. I reckon we're close to our budget as is. No point in having £75m for transfers but nothing for wages.

but isn't it the boards job to take wages into account before they allocate the budget? what's the point of "giving" him money if they're expecting it back to pay wages? they're hardly telling him he has to break even behind the scenes are they?

Even factoring that, losing RvP and Song in the space of a week and not replacing them is shocking form. Holding my breath until 11.

Sure I nearly forgot we have Schweinsteiger arriving any minute now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,333 ✭✭✭bad2dabone

today we've cleared the guts of 100k a week wages with ridding ourselves of bendy and park. 55k of song and whatever 80k of rvp. It's not wages holding us back, it's pig-headedness.

we could definitely use another striker.

What's bothering me is we haven't even brought in utility players for our full back positions or our holding midfield position. Either something is happening in the next two hours or Wenger is putting a lot of faith in the injured players coming back and the less experienced players in the squad stepping up.
